Hello all,
I just set 48 eggs this morning in my incubator and when I was away for a short period of time the tempature spiked to 104. (I did have the incubator running for 36 hours before setting the eggs so this was unexpected) Did I kill the eggs chances of growing only 2 hours after filling it up or is there a chance they may still grow and hatch. I’ve gotten the temperature down to 99 but my humidity won’t drop below 70%. Is this a major problem? This is my third hatch but first time with my new incubator so hoping I haven’t ruined my chances. Thanks for any advice you can give.

It all depends on how long the high temps lasted. It takes a while for the inside of the egg to match the air temp in the incubator. Even then the embryo won't die instantaneously. I would leave them in and candle after seven days. You should see signs of life by then unless the eggs are very dark or opaque.

Since this is your third hatch, you could also try looking for development as soon as the beginning of the second day. You will sometimes be able to detect a reddish smudge somewhere on the yolk by then. This would be comforting if you see changes, but somewhat meaningless if you don't see any. I would do it myself, but it depends on what you feel comfortable with.

Thank you! I will check in a few days and hope they still grow.
