Incubating Question

YEs, candling is one method.

This was the most imporant concept to understand-- made the difference between hatch and not hatching. Eggs need to lose a lot of moisture to be able to hatch. Kind of a GOldilocks thing-- just right.

Do you have a printout of the aircells at 7th, 14th and 18th days?? I printed one and kept it near the eggs to compare to while candling.

you can do a general google search-- look for "air cells at 7th, 14th and 18th day" and you should find several diagrams. SOme are black and white, others are colored. Choice one that appeals to you. Let me know if you can't find a good diagram.

When you start to learn to play golf, you take lessons. Before you drive a car, you take driver's Ed.

For this reason, BYC has a GREAT library of learning and information. Up at the top of the page, you'll find a big brown tab button called "The Learning Center". There's a lot of really good stuff in there about raising chickens, hatching eggs, and all the rest.

I remember searching through it myself on information for a specific issue with shipped eggs and found Sally Sunshine's great articles. Great tools.

Gosh, I watch YouTube videos to learn about building things, making things and repairing things all the time. No one knows everything, but all of us can learn, we just need to know where to start. The Learning Center is such a place to start.
