Second batch of Shipped eggs not looking good, first batch nothing developed, this batch appears to have quit close to lockdown time. Probably going to try again and wondering what the consensus is about incubating air cell up in carton or on side? My second hatch I cut holes in bottom of carton and put the carton on 40 degree tilt turning three times a day. The chicks appear to have grown on their sides with yoke under air ell and some with it besides them.

where are you getting your eggs from? I am in Wa. eggs shipped by air doen't do as well. we are close enough I don't think they would air mail it. my chicks are coming out frizzle- but I have many chicken friends if you think you want a certain breed. let me know.

Thank you so much I'm in Salem area. I ordered Silkie eggs all the way from Tennessee. They did have a long flight. I really liked the mix the nice gal offered of Silkies, blue, black, buff, cuckoo and white. She packed them carefully but I think you're right about the flight, I'm assuming they were probably X-rayed too. I've found a place in Portland that might have chicks. I'll know by Wednesday. You're right about getting eggs from surrounding states too, no flight only a truck ride. Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate it! Found a broody girl up for grabs today too, her owner said she won't budge till she hatches something, I feel her pain, LOL!

I would think you can find things close. the more I talk to chicken people the more chicken people I learn about. My chicken lady friends and I are going to see a guy who has a farm 1 hr from us that is supposed to have all kinds of breeds. I am going to get lavander orp. eggs if I go.

I got brave again today and cracked the eggs since it was day 24 and no pipping or movement upon candling. 3 apparently quit somewhere around day 10-12 and two had their yokes almost pulled in but their feet were above their heads, possible they were shrink wrapped and Looking back I would of pipped their shells day 22. Might of have had a chance but I also noticed their feet only had four toes on one and another only had two toes. I think Silkies should have five. If I had to guess what went wrong I'm thinking X-ray, flight and a day where humidity dropped into the twenties in my incubator. Definite learning experience. This was my second attempt incubating. Going to give it a rest and regroup for a awhile. Thanks for all the advice, greatly appreciate it!

Yes, I think it's a good idea too, been running on checking incubator for the last five weeks straight. Sleep is good! Did find a couple of local people who might have chicks later on this summer. Who knows what tomorrow will bring! Thanks again!

Wow she's a busy girl! That's a lot of eggs! When are they due to hatch? I'm looking at eggs again today, LOL! Short break, I don't think I can get any delivered before early next week, so I'm thinking the Broodys will be gone or not broody anymore. Cleaned out incubator today and noticed the humidity in my house is 55% Half tempted to get a water wiggle to monitor temp and try the brooder for incubating. I'm also going to order more eggs this time too, hoping that will increase our chances of hatching. Third times a charm! :jumpy
