Incubating Silkie eggs questions???

No I don't mind at all, I don't know the answer to your question but I'm sure someone will. I would like to know the answer too, I want to learn as much as possible before my eggs get here so I am fully prepared! Good luck with your hatch , have you already started?

Thanks for all the information! Thanks silkiemom1986! We will be new baby mamas soon! We might even have brother and sister peeps!

I use styrofoam as I feel that the paper ones have the potential to wick up moisture ect? but like I said this is my first time...I used an 18 egg carton cut down...so far it is working great and I have 3 chicks out with 3 other pips...it is very clean when they hatch and they are not rolling the eggs around everywhere...

I was also told that silkies sometimes take a little longer to hatch..which has been the case with me...my first guy took almost 24 hrs exactly from pip to hatch

I set mine on September 30th...I'm hoping I can get some to hatch...their mom was killed by a hawk and I want one of her babies

I also had a NN pullet die and her eggs are in there also...this is my first time incubating and I'm so afraid something will happen to them

I would be so upset if I lost their babies, too! Praying for a good hatch

Thanks for this step by step...takes some of the guesswork out. I have two weeks to prepare!

yes I trimmed the little middles down by cutting off the 'hill' divider between the egg compartments and then sliced a hole in the bottom for ventilation... the chicks are getting out of their eggs quiet easy...I am at work now so some were pipped and zipping as I left today...can't wait to get home...BUT it is prob. good that i am not home to tamper with the bator...this hatch i am leaving it shut and alone...

Good luck with your hatch!!

Just be careful with paper egg cartons - I have a Hovabator and it has water in wells. I used paper cartons and I think I drowned 4 of my 5 eggs last time by using paper cups that wicked water up. Only one chick hatched and the others were developed but didn't hatch. If I tried it again I would use the styrofoam cups and cut holes instead of taking a chance on the paper getting so soaked.
