Incubating ... Where to start .... UPDATE: Tractor Supply Incubator?

SugarSandFarm ... I will be buying the little giant Friday. I'm talking with someone who will hopefully have some barred rock eggs for me to incubate. I'm really excited. Is there anything else I need to buy to go with this specific brand?

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I think the main reason I'm going with this brand is because it's up the road, easy to buy & I have read many good things about it with success. I feel confident but then again, I felt this way with the metal siding we put up around our coop. BAD idea !!

We have two Little Giant incubators: one with a turner for incubating, one without a turner for hatching. So far it's worked pretty well, tho I have to admit we don't have loads of hatches under our belt. I think if we decide to hatch a bunch more that I will make one; since we have a turner already, I'll find or make a box that will fit that turner.

Only one can not do the incubating & hatching ?? Is there a reason you use two different ones? I want to make sure I'm doing this right before I start. Thank you for the help.

Sorry for confusing you! One incubator can do both, but it is recommended that you take them out of the turner for lockdown. Some people use the egg carton lockdown method, and others simply lay the eggs on their side once the turner is out of the incubator. We've done staggered hatches since we began, and it is easier to do those with a separate hatcher.
