Will eggs hatch if fresh egg yolk has been smeared all over them? I've seen plenty of very poopy eggs hatch under a broody hen, but not yolky eggs. What about in an incubator?

I had 12 eggs under a broody. An egg broke and most ended up "Yolky".

5 hatched.

Really? Cool. I haven't had a broody break an egg under herself yet, but I guess if she will stay on, then I should let her. Thanks for this info.

It does make me wonder how she cleaned herself up, though.

It's not a standard term.

A nest full of eggs. In comes another hen to lay an egg. She loses her footing and breaks an egg that gets yolk on the other eggs. The eggs with yolk on them are yolky. Actually, though, they would have white on them also, but it's not so noticeable.
