Hi I’m haydn from north wales in the uk and I’m incubating seramas and pekin bantams I started them on the same day but I heard that seramas can hatch early so I put them in lockdown yesterday(day 16) I was just wondering will the pekin bantam eggs be okay with that humidity I’m just abit worriedly any advice will help also my incubator is sitting at 63% humidity I’ve tried raising it but it keeps dropping back down I’ve got a Brinsea mini 2 eco

Welcome to BYC, Haydn. That sounds perfect. They will probably hatch on day 21 just like any other chicken, but locking down early is fine. Everyone I know who hatches bantams say they very rarely hatch early. But you never know. Have you candled to check for internal pips? Hopefully you have some chicks soon!

I raise serama and they usually hatch on the 19th day; but it does vary between 18 and 20 days. And that's under broody hens. Locking down on the 16th day should be alright. Many bantam breeds hatch on the 20th day. My phoenix and Yokohama bantams do. That fluctuating humidity may cause a problem though. If you don't know how to do an assisted hatch, you might want to do some research on the subject; hopefully it will be information you won't have to use.

Thanks for the welcome and I have candled them yesterday and they all had veins and darkness moving no internal pips I put 10 eggs in and one didn’t develop

How much is the humidity fluctuating @Haydzdm ? You can put a hot wet wash cloth in a corner (not touching any eggs) to try to raise the humidity.
I’ve placed a wet tissue inside it and it went up to 70% and then dropped back down to 57% and it is just staying at that both of the pots are full in the middle

Thank you for the help it won’t hold above 57% humidity it’s a Brinsea incubator I’ll research everything about assisted hatching now can only hope I don’t need to do that

You're welcome. I would candle agin today. Just to look for internal pips. You don't have to though. 9 out of 10 making it to lockdown is pretty good!

Hm. Can you do a sponge? It should be at least at 65% for lockdown. Your hydrometer is salt-tested I'm guessing, right?

I’m on day 18 now so should the tissue keeps drying up I will try the sponge now thank you for that and should I candle then or just leave them go?

Hopefully the sponge helps. Just leave them for now.
