I'm excited to be finally incubating my first batch of eggs from my chickens. Day 4 for 4 of them. There was a 5th, but it cracked on day two.

They will be mixed chickens, but mostly are going to be raised as food.

Hens are barred rock, orpington, Rhode island red and a silver laced wingotte.

Roos are barred rock and an easter egger. Barred rock is the dominant roo, but have seen the EE breeding the girls a few times.

It will be interesting to see what these will turn out looking like if they hatch. All are fertile and growing chicks in them.

One is an oddball egg that someone had said to try and incubate. So far it is doing okay and will keep a close eye on it.

Ive set weird looking eggs before and they hatched. How does it look when you candle it, does the shell have noticably lighter spots?

It has a couple. Really hard to see the embryo cause one of the outer white spots is darker when candling and it's right over it. You can see the veins a little though

oh, it doesn't look too porous. that's good. most funky shelled eggs I've seen have had large portions of the shell thinner than a normal shell, with those you can't handle them much. but yours looks really good :)

I was a bit surprised when I saw it wasnt too porous considering I also was getting shell less eggs with this random one. I seemed to fix the issue giving them oyster shells and haven't gotten any strange ones so far.
