incubation/hatch trouble

Black australorp and a few red sexlix australorp mix thay are from my own flock figured i have never seen a egg hatch and now i k.ow why people love hatching there own eggs lol
It is exciting. We did our first hatch as a science project for my son. (We homeschool.) My sister gave me her incubator and a couple dozen of her barnyard mix eggs and wished me luck...lol That hatch was awful. The brand new thermometer I bought ended up being 6 degrees off, so I only ended up with 2 hatchers and one that actually survived, but we fell in love with him and after talking about it decided to raise our own flock. So we set more eggs, I had 13 hatch (used three brand new thermometers...lol) and we did loose one of our little turkens at just over a week old, but now I have 12 8 week chicks. 5 boys though from what I can tell. So 5 of them will be leaving. :-( But I am looking foreward to hopefully doing an Easter hatch.

We started our with 5 red sexlinks from TSC a year ago we where there getting horse feed and the wice said the looked so cute we had to get some. Then after i raised them i tbought we need more eggs 6 a day wont do so we ordered 20female and 5 male astralorps. Needless to say now we have too many eggs lol idk what i was thinking starting a hatch this late in winter here in way up state NY its way to cold out but the house is always warm enough for them.

OMG. I'm Upstate NY too...Northern NY, up past Watertown. We're getting nailed with snow. I am almost regretting my November hatch...lol They are 8 weeks, in the house in the playroom where they will be until the beginning of April when I can get the run and coop done. It'll be easier when my sis comes and get the 5 roos, but I will never hatch at the beginning of winter again unless it's for someone else...lol How far upstate are you?

lol wow small world!!! I live in Sterling right off Lake Ontario about 25 min from Rochester. we are getting a small dusting so im sure with the lake affect we will be getting nailed soon..... we keep getting warnings but nothing major yet

If you have a smartphone or computer within hearing distance of the bator, go to youtube search baby chicks chirping and play one of the videos for them and watch and listen...lol It really motivates them..at least it has with all mine. :-) I do this when my first one pips, gives then encouragement.
