New to the incubation process. I have a few questions. Eggs are developing nicely when it comes time to get out of the shell the babies pip but never zip. Many have died due to never getting out of the shell. We ended up helping a lot and all the ones we helped survived but I just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems like this. I'm using a cabinet forced air incubator with auto turners. Temp is 99.5 and humidity is steady at 55% and raised for the lock down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard with us. I'd suggest posting your question on the "incubating and hatching eggs" forum. Sorry, I've never used an incubator, so i am clueless as to what the issue may be.

Good luck

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Your humidity is probably too low at lock down and the chicks are sticking to the insides of the shell. You need to get the humidity up to 70% or so. Generally low humidity is the issue when they get to the hatching stage but can't get out of the shell.

Definitely post in our Hatching Eggs forums too for more help.

Good luck and I hope you have better luck next time! :)

Thanks so much. Maybe our auto turner is a problem? Maybe I'll try hand turning them next batch so know for sure they're getting turned correctly. We'll see I guess :)
