Using an incubator for first time. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with the little vent hole on top. It has a sliding cover, any help please? Also it was factory set at 38c but someone told me 37.4, now I've set it at 37.8 to be able between, will that be ok?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! With my incubator it also has a sliding cover, I have it open full all the time so there is as much oxygen as possible in the incubator for the eggs. Is your incubator still or forced air (fan) incubator? Forced air incubators are reccomended to run at 99.5 f and still air at 102f measured at the top of the eggs for still air. I would also reccomend you double check temps and humidty with another thermometer and hygrometer although they say factory set this is not always the case.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your eggs :frow

What would you think of adjusting the temperature after three days.? It sounds like I should drop it a little more!

If you did drop the temp it would only be .3 of a degree. It has to be your decision these are your eggs. I personally like 37.5 it suits me and my incubator and eggs. I would still double check though that it's running correctly.

I'm glad you joined us.

I would drop the temperature to 37.5 degrees Celsius (99.5 degrees Fahrenheit) , since that is the recommended temperature for a forced-air incubator. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it being exactly at that temperature. Anywhere from 99-100 degrees Fahrenheit is usually fine.
