Egg was accidentally punctured by the turner. Mistakenly thought to be partly hatched. This is the 22nd day and there’s a big yoke sack. Embryo is still active Can it be saved outside the shell?

Leave as much shell on it as possible. You'll have to babysit to keep membranes moist. But don't mess with him too much. Just keep an eye on it.

The idea is to keep him contained until he struggles enough to absorb the yolk and close the navel, which means confining him to a space as small as the egg until he's ready & able to push out himself.

I use an egg carton cup, just cut one slot with the lid attached and set him, with as much shell as he has left, inside, put one small piece of masking tape to hold the top down.

Remove the tape when he becomes more active, maybe a day from now, keep the top against the side so he still has to push out.

If they're in lockdown, day 22, why is the turner still in there? It should be removed on day 18....

I think it’s too late. If I have another damaged egg I will do what you suggested. The turner is still in because we are hatching eggs of different ages.

Oh man. That's no good. I'm sorry this happened. Hopefully next round is better. Staggered hatches are always a challenge. Even in the best cases.

I'm sorry to hear that....

I just got 5 Hatched that way. My bater quit mid hatch. (But that's another post) 15 didn't survive the cold, but I got 5 out.

Side note.... no matter how many times you've done it, no matter how sure you are that the navel is closed, no matter how long you have to wait...

DO NOT PULL, TEAR, OR CUT OFF THE YELLOW, WHITE, GREEN OR WHATEVER COLOR SLIME IS STILL ATTACHED!

I KNOW better. But I was sure it was dried up enough, chuck was dry, still hanging from a big piece of shell. I cut it.

Chick almost bled to death. It's recovering. But you don't want that on your conscience. So glad I'm not a surgeon.
