Incubator Advice /Suggestions / Reccomendations Needed...!!!

I have NEVER hatched anything before.
I have never tried.
I have never thought about it.....

Til now.........

Since it is IMPOSSIBLE to find Black Copper Marans in Alaska, I am going to buy some Fertile eggs.
I need advice as to what the BEST incubator is for 15-30 eggs.
Please.?????????

Well do it..You'll either pull your hair out, or enjoy it so much you cant stop. Just research before you jump in.

Research the various incubators, many people will suggest different one's. Might I suggest a Hovabator 1588, or a brinsea..It really depends on how much money your willing to spend. There are also threads here on making your own bator, do a search here on the site there is a load of info.

Hey, I have a hova bator 1588 with the auto turner, and have 6 BCM eggs in it right now!
Have you hooked up with MissDeb yet? She lives here in Ak and is who I bought my eggs from.

Maybe she knows of somewhere where I can get BCM's up here.
I have been searching for BCM's for over a YEAR.
I got my hands on some Pendensenca eggs (which are in the process of incubating as we speak at a friend's house), but I have been wanting BCM's for as long as I can remember.
After over a year of searching, I FINALLY got my hands on a 1 year old BCM Roo and a Hen, but the hen has not laid a single egg in the past 2 months.
Thinking about Culling her. But I want to keep the Roo, he's a DOLL. So sweet and tame.

Main Point: I WANT MORE BCM's.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a pair of BCMs on craigslist last week.
MissDeb is a member here, I'll let her know you're looking. Iwouldn't cull her, maybe she's in molt? Egg bound? Laying somewhere you aren't seeing?
IDK, just throwing out some ideas.

Have you gone to the icubating -hatching eggs section yet? There are some stickies st the top of the list that ahve some REALLY goodlinks, and a few threads are super duper just for general knowlege. I'm a first timer too, but in cali, not Alaska. I'm hopeing I can get something to hatch- 21 days is FOREVER!!

Good luck at finding the BCM's, and I hope ALL your eggs become beautiful chicks!!

The 2 you saw on Craigslist are the 2 I bought!
The previous owner told me that she got the Hen in January, and she laid an egg in February, and nothing since.
I want BCM's so bad that I did not care. I paid the $40.
We haven't had any luck here either over the past week, but are willing to let her go about 90 days. Give her time to adjust...
Maybe she'll lay SOMETHING!

All I know is I want MORE BCM's!!!!!!
I'm desperate!

I had a guy offer to sell me Day-Old Chicks for $10 each. Which was OK, but he was asking an additional $50 for shipping!
I want 5-10 BCM's.

About MissDeb.... Yes, please, please let her know that I am looking!

I dont know how many hours of sunlight you have up there right now but a hen will require 14 hours to lay normally. You might try putting a light in the coop. I did this, this winter when our number of daylight hours dropped b/c most of the hens stopped laying, I also gave them tepid warm water to help keep there insides warm and they all started laying again and have laid all winter. Dont know but its worth a shot.

Sunlight is not the problem right now.
I'm thinking Tori is either lazy, or just not the "Laying" kinda girl! LOL

The sun rises at about 6:30-7 right now, and when my kids went to bed last night at 8:30, the sun was still shining thru my living room.
Also, we have a Flood light inside the coop, as well as a Heat Lamp, and another flood-light outside. (Both are on a sensor, so they turn on by themselves when the sun goes down.

Pretty soon we will have light 24/7. (Everyone's favorite time of the year, as all our electric bills drop down to next to nothing!) LoL
