I agree with you PouletsDeCajun on still/forced. I stuck a fan in the LG and even though everything stayed somewhat stable nearly all the eggs looked freeze dried on the inside. and the hatches came out very poor. I ran it through two small batches with the fan and just took it out. Maybe it would be better with something like a small cpu fan.

what/how would you sanitize the cartons? I never have, but maybe it would not be a bad idea.. you certainly cannot boil them..

Humidity was 44-48%. 1-18. It was in the basement which had a humidity of 67%. Thinking it was sucking air through the vent holes or something. The ones freeze dried were under the fan. The rest hatched fine.

a week or so ago there was a thread about ventilation.. I did not follow it too closely, but try to look it up as it might have some answers for you...

is the fan you were using one made for the hova or LG or was it a PC type fan..?

I am going to guess a PC type fan.. am I right??

Hi, glad to see you have the same model and are happy, I borrowed that model from the local 4-H group and was sort of worried as I figured it might be outdated. I don't have the opitional fan or the egg turner. I've had it running for 2 days and it's keeping pretty fair temp and humidity, did take a bit of playing with it to get it just right. Going to put eggs in tomorrow. Hoping all goes well...Good luck to you!!

I just bought a hova bator 1602n today and the directions are terrible, I plugged it in and nothing is happening...how can you tell the humidity in the thing? Does it have a indacator to tell you? I have never done this before and it is confusing

To monitor humidity you need to get a hygrometer. You can buy them at Wal-Mart. I got a digital thermometer/hygrometer for I think $8.95 or so. You will find them near the fans and air conditioners.

You probably already know that you need to let the bator run empty for a day or so till you get the temp stabilized. Good Luck!

A really neat post I just picked up a 1602N with the idea of using it for a hatcher, immediately I realized I needed a fan and the HB was already drilled for a 3" computer type fan i could,nt believe the holes were already drilled right and everything. I used long screws and mounted the fan about a 1- 1 1/2" away from the top of the bator but I think I am going to use it as a still air during lockdown wish me luck it seems like a really good little bator I think the next quail hatch I do I am going to try it out.
