First diy incubator chick hatched this morning

Congratulations! I've been waiting on one of my hens to go broody so I don't have to drag out my diy but none of them care if I want chicks

I think they are smarter than I am when picking chick weather. But I have to hatch, short of talking a broody into sitting on someone else's eggs. My hens are old and not laying

I have half a dozen that didn't hatch yet, will have to figure out what to do.

I opened the half dozen they were almost fully developed and dead, maybe fully developed. I think temperature irregularity in the DIY incubator caused the problem. so of 11 eggs, 1 infertile, 4 chicks, and 6 dead chicks. Not happy. Don't know if there was any way to save when the other chicks hatched, these did not seem to have a large enough air pocket
