have just had another failure with this incubator(janoel 48)-
first try was 2 out of 22,rest were DIS no internal pip

second try 7 out of 20 ,rest DIS no internal pip
he.gif

those that hatched seemed to be a bit wet around neck /head ,didn't fluff up in those areas for a day or so ,fluff is thin can see skin patch's,
temp solid rite thru ,humidity 35-40% day o-18 ,last 3 days 55-60%

2 separate digital thermometers /hygrometers, that were calibrated

my thoughts were insufficient angle of tilt,
my first hatch was 18 out of 19 in a different borrowed incubator with inconsistent temps but hand turned

.
am i better to try converting to semi manual using egg trays or remove & go to manual hand turning ?

thought a better machine would have less problems ,any suggestions or ideas on the results appreciated

cheers Pete

anyone have any ideas that may help ,i'm at aloss as to why i am having such high losses thanks

You could consider raising your humidity the last three days to 65-70. I have good luck keeping the humidity up higher at the end, especially if your staying so low during incubation. Have you opened the unhatchedeggs to see what happened?

thanks for the reply ,but i thought higher humidity at the end (last 3days) may have been the problem.examination of the eggs showed completely formed but no internal pip

What was your temp? What was the inner membrane like? I doubt the higher humidity is your problem. I also doubt the egg turner, it might be a simple case of low viability eggs this time. Try another batch of different eggs, and see what happens. You may have totally different results with the same exact method. Does your incubator have a fan? If not you should add one and keep temp between 99 and 100F. I have hatched 3 batches over the last couple weeks and had one fail to hatch. Another one pipped internally but was tightly wrapoed in membrane so I got it out myself. All in all I had 3 staggered hatches with 25 eggs and one didnt make it. Could be something happened you dont even know about, like a random temp spike....hard to say really.

temp was recorded 3 x day - range 99 to 100 F ,has fan . tested egg fertility before setting ,2 breeds of my own eggs ,got 4 of one, 3 of other so doubt egg viability, membrane appeared ok ,
I'm at a loss as to why

Me too...i would be very disturbed. Sorry i couldnt be of more help. Honestly you seem tobe doing everything right.
