Somewhere on here I found a list of breeds that will go broody:

old english games
kraienkoppes
malays
shamos
asils
madagascar games
silkies

In some of the heavy breeds, you may get a broody or two out of a batch, like RIR, BO, BA. I don't want an incubator; I want to hatch with broodies.

A neighbor of mine had a silkie disappear, then reappear from the woods a few weeks later with about 6 babies in tow.

And it usually works fine to put other birds' eggs under a hen who is broody.

I have two LF hens broody now they are both sitting. Doodle my giant blue cochin hatched out one and is still sitting on three She is a love and you can adjust her move her pet her and she just purrs.
Isis my other cochin just started yesterday but shes aggressive she bit me when I tried to put food in their enclosure. I also have my granddaughters speckled sussex sitting on three eggs. Shes another doll she purrs to the eggs and will let you move her as well. She is sitting in one of the houses nest boxes so I have to check for additional eggs each day. She doesn't mind at all When I purchased these birds I was told they were heritage birds, I think thats the difference they will go broody.
