At my feed store they have a still air incubator for $50. I can buy an egg turner for another 50$ but I figured I'd just turn it myself. But I'm wondering if this is a good deal or not? What are the hatch rates for an incubator like this? I can't find it online what it looks like. but I think it's styrofoam and it has a wire floor, I could also buy a fan for it..should I do that depending on how much money I have leftover?

Thanks

Most feed store sell Little Giant incubators, and they are usually around that price. They will work, but they are very temperamental. I would spend the Extra and get a Hovabator genesis or a Brinsea Octagon which is on sale at Brinsea.com

I did pretty good with my Feb 17th hatch with my old styrofoam incubator. I put in 69 eggs and hatched out 50. More might have hatched if the lockdown would have worked. You see, the chicks were really due on the 19th. Some of them could have used help.....started hatching, but something went wrong and they didn't finish.

Pardon the highjack, but answers to this question may be of equal interest to the original poster and others (if not, feel free to give me the boot):

I was thinking about the LG as a lockdown bater. Rather than take the eggs out of the turner in the Genesis, remove the turner, etc., just have a still air LG set up and ready to go at the correct temp and humidity and just transfer them over. Is that overkill or a good idea?

I had my LG for 2 weeks before upgrading to the 1588, but I still used the LG as a hatcher, that way I could stagger hatches. It worked fine, as I didn't mind baby sitting the LG for those 3-4 days.
