Incubator smells?

My homemade egg incubator smells...

I don't like it that much.

But I wondered how much of the smells from an incubator are normal and how much are from the bad eggs?

I would think because animals always smell there should be some fugly gross smell even without the bad eggs right? But at what point is that also from the bad eggs, and not just fugly animal smells?

Incubators don't smell normally. If you have a bad smell, you most likely have a rotten egg, or your incubator needs to be cleaned. I'd start candling the eggs and try to find the bad one before it explodes, which is a thing that can happen.

Just to be safe...and since I'm fairly new at incubating...

Is there any chance an egg ready to hatch can be mistaken with a rotten egg in smell?

I've got one egg that's looked dark for awhile but its also at around day 26. (Duck egg). I want to make sure I'm not confusing the dark shadowy color for a rotten egg color.

At day 26, the egg can look dark. How long would you say that it’s been like that? Duck eggs can sometimes have a smell so it might not be a rotten one, have you candled and taken out any you think are not fertile?

Smell it. If it's rotten you'll know, lol.
