Incubator Thermometers

Hello all,
New here. I bought a Styrofoam incubator and am going to try my hand at hatching some of our eggs.
I was wondering what thermometer you guys used? We have the one that comes with it, the one on the clear sheet that comes with it. I don't know how accurate it is and I want to make sure our temperature is right.

I purchased a thermometer from TSC and got a Hygrometer as well to measure humidity( not from TSC) Digital thermometer are probably most accurate. Find any one there is no one that has to be bought. I place two different thermometer in to double check the temperature.

It was suggested to get 2 or 3 thermometers from Walmart in the fish department. Check all that you are buying to make sure they read the same

I just started this process to with a Styrofoam incubator, my question is how do i get the humidity down, it was around 35% until I put the eggs in then went to 55%. I don't have any water in the trenches either.

I use fish tank thermometers (found at walmart) and the Digital hygroset II. Make sure that whatever thermometer you end up using is calibrated, as some can be off by more than 5 degrees!

The one that comes with it is usually off by about 2 degrees.... So don't trust it.

Calibrate the Digital Thermometer​

Adjust the nut of the digital thermometer in order to correct the temperature. This is done by simply turning the adjuster until the correct reading is reached. Digital thermometers do not require any adjustment of a screw or nut. You simply need to locate the reset button. When the freezing point or boiling point of water is achieved, simply push the button and that’s it. Some digital thermometers may require you to push hold the reset button.

What To Do If Your Thermometer Is Inaccurate​

When testing a thermometer for accuracy, all you're trying to do is make sure that your unit is not grossly out of whack. You should be worried about being off by +/-20°F, not +/-2°F. If your testing shows that your thermometer is off by only a few degrees, don't do anything—just take those few degrees into account when reading your thermometer. It should be noted that even high-quality, industrial-grade thermometers are only accurate to +/-1% of their scale. This means that at a standard 212°F boiling point, these thermometers may read as much as 2°F above or below the actual temperature and still be within manufacturing specifications. Bottom line: Don't sweat your thermometer being off by a few degrees!
If your thermometer is off by +/-5°F or more, you may want to consider replacing it with a higher quality model. S
Inexpensive thermometers typically cannot be recalibrated if found to be inaccurate, but more expensive units may be recalibrated by the manufacturer and in some cases by the user. Consult the instructions that came with your thermometer for details.​

• If completing steps in the “Calibrating – Using Boiling Water” section and you are at an elevation between 1,000 and 1,999 feet, the temperature to calibrate your digital thermometer at is 210 degrees F; between 2,000 and 2,999 feet, calibrate at 208 degrees F; between 3000 and 3,999 feet, 206.4 degrees F; between 4,000 and 4,999 feet, 204.5 degrees F; between 5,000 and 5,999 feet, 202.75 degrees F; and 8,000 feet and higher, 197.5 degrees F.​
