I have build a incubator out of a ice chest it has 40 w bulb, fan, water heater thermostat. The temp. is different in 3 spots in it. one is 96 the others 99,and 102. will this be ok? also do these homemade incubators work well or not?

My homemade styrofoam cooler/bator/hatchers work great, but my temps don't wander like that. It's a little hotter under the bulb, but I brace the top a little open right by the bulb and it stays pretty even.

Do a search for Miss Prissy's home made incubaors. There are threads on here with step by step instructions. If it is well insulated you've either got faulty thermometers or too much ventilation.

Good luck... you just want it to be about 99.5 to 100 degrees where the eggs are sitting.... constantly for 21 days... then up the humidity a bit at day 18 and stop turning them..

thanks my fan may blow to much air. I will get a smaller fan

What is the position of your fan in relationship to your thermostat? The fan and bulb should be on the other side of the bator from the thermostat. Do a search for Log cabin bator by Speckledhen.

This is how we did ours and it holds temps really well. I have 4 thermometers in there and they register within a degree of each other.
