When making your own incubator and using Hardware cloth do you lay the eggs right on the hardware cloth or do you lay papertowels or something on the wire then put the eggs on it? Thanks.

I use that rubbery shelf liner with holes in it. Then you can disinfect it afterward or just throw it away and cut a new piece next time.

We lay our eggs right on the wire.

If you will be hatching in the bator, use the "rubbery shelf liner" that Cyn refers to. It makes cleanup a good bit handier.

In fact, use the stuff regardless. It is "cushiony" in case you get a little ham fisted and just adds a nice touch of orderliness

You CAN set eggs right on the wire, too, if you choose. I did that until the foamy stuff came around.

We lay ours directly on the wire also. Don't want anything sticking to a freshly hatched chick that you can't peel off when it dries.

I lay eggs directly on the wire. Then when it comes to hatch time I put down a rubber mat to collect stuff for easy clean up too.
