Incubators Anonymous

Thanks & Very clever. I'm actually looking for some new names.

My chickens have unusual names:
Einstein (not the brightest hen in the house. Name given sarcastically)
Tyrion (From Game of Thrones. We thought she was a tiny, clever rooster with a fearless attitude until she started laying green-blue eggs)
Omelet (Hatched from an egg that was in our fridge for a couple days. My daughter talked me into incubating it, Instead of a nice breakfast, we got a funny-looking, but very affectionate, hen.
Firefighter (What can I say? My son named her. We thought she was a roo heading back to the farm so I didn't care about the name.)
Poopie Poo (Orig was Licorice. Every time we held her, she pooped in our laps. Her nickname took over. Problem: No one requests to eat a "Poopie Poo" egg.)

Any ideas of what I can try to improve my next hatch of shipped eggs?

Let's round out the cast! So far we got Hen Solo, Chew-bok-a, Java the Hutt, Storm Cooper (Pooper?), Bantam Menace, C-tweet-pio (my favorite!), so let's make Admiral Rock Barred, Luke Skywattle and Darth Bator!

As far as how to improve a hatch? Not sure what you can do that you aren't already. Setting eggs for at least 12 hours, not turning detached air cell eggs for a few days, monitoring them closely, laying them properly for lockdown - I think that may be all you can do for shipped eggs.

Amykins- Thanks. Could I have done something differently at the end? It was so sad to see them fully formed & dead?

Ok I'll join in:
Obi-Wan Cluck-obi
Lando Chick-issian

Would really like something for Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker. Anyone?

YOLKA! Adorable name, that is. <3

And for doing something different? I doubt it...I'm in the same boat as you hun, last year all my shipped eggs wound up as DIS. :/ Fully formed and everything. I cried for days and days. This year I have a wonderful fully automated bator, so far I don't have one single quitter and the air cells are looking much less warped, as well! I think just keeping the bator as consistent as possible early on will do wonders, but it sure is tough resisting the urge to candle the eggs every day just to make sure they're okay! I've had to slap my own hand away twice now just to make sure I don't open the lid and change the temps, hehe!
