Incubators Anonymous

The coyotes and cougars would love it if I got fainting goats!

Well if you are living with them as neighbors then you goat must be nimble! Here is something that a shepherd aquaintence of mine does in that country. She puts out an electric line with aluminum foil folded over the wire. Then she smears the foil with peanut butter. When the coyotes lick the peanut butter they get the full force of the shock right in the mouth and don't challenge the fence.

Oh that is just a bunch of hog wash I have no problem getting rid od of my chicks ...

I was tired of my so called friends anyway as they just were not in to incubating or chicks

And I just cleaned up my incubator after incubating from January till the middle of August anyway

Also I do not plan on using the incubating anymore till next month as I will be letting the local school use the incubator for a science class because the teacher there has been unsuccessful for the last 3 years running so I am going to set every thing up for them and donate the egg's and check out their progress daily so I have everything under control here ......

this is my real problem unauthorized hatching

Ya she just takes it upon herself to incubate

Awesome that you are helping out your local school!!!! I am a teacher and support is sooooo appreciated...especially when hatching is not a successful experience. So disappointing for all

I'm basically sitting on my hands waiting for about two more weeks, then I should have a real incubator!!! Then I'll be able to start hatching.
In the meantime...I've got chicks coming this week!!! two dozen little fuzz butts should be arriving at the post office some time between Wed and Fri!!! I'm sooooo excited to have babies, even if someone else got to do the hatching part for me!!!

Something just occurred to me: I wonder if ppl who work in hatcheries have chickens at home...do they hatch peeps...do they get so fed up with all the peeping all day and just want to go home to a nice quiet house at the end of the day...or are they addicted to hatching like we are and just thankful they get paid for it??? Thoughts?

I, for one, am thankful that, when I can't feed my hatchaholism, they feed my babyholism.
YAY...congrats for an incubator

Would be so neglected if I even tried....sigh....

I truly believe that hatchery people must LOVE chicks to work there...I know I would have a big problem with chicks just somehow coming home with me

There are some gorgeous Breda eggs on Ebay. Free shipping too!

Hey about Pygmy goats: Don't let their lack of stature deceive you. They can jump 4 feet! If we get goats again it will be Myatonic Goats (TN Fainting Goats or the Silkies). They can't jump or low crawl very well.

I "need" more Seramas...

before I get more, maybe I should let the ones in my bator hatch first... I have a pip!!

Love it!!

I vacillate between wanting to share my passion for incubating with people and not wanting them to know that I actually bought MORE eggs!

There is an auction ending in a hour and 20 minutes... I wonder if I can resist...
Well????????

and my duck is going broody again... of course she needs a couple eggs to hatch... and if I get a few extras then she will be more likely to at least get a couple ducklings... right?!
Yes...yes...of course...for duckie you MUST some eggs for her to hatch!

I resisted the serama eggs... whew... I just can't handle the pressure of those auctions.... still looking at Ancona duck eggs... my duck has tried so hard to be a mama, sitting on infertile eggs. This will be her third time this Summer!! I got her eggs but my timing was off and she didn't sit on them... that is how my whole hatching craze began! I hope this time will work. She already has 9 eggs... don't know how many she'll lay. She is a Muscovy though, so she will sit for a very very long time.

Just put my second batch of eggs in, Will be putting a few more in later on today as well. We are doing speckled Sussex, SS/RSL and maybe some SS/White leghorn. Will be interesting to see what the mixes turn out like :) We lost one of our RSL's yesterday so hopefully we get a few to add to our flock out of this batch. Our last hatch nobody hatched.

Yes, thats what I did last time, But my problem was fluctuation temperature. So this time I am using a "real" incubator instead of a home made one and I calibrated all my thermometers and hygrometer. I am hoping this time with a thermostat the temperatures dont fluctuate as much.
