Incubators Anonymous

I have warmed up theincubator and left it over night but found it dropped to below 30 C over night, how can I stop that happening?
I heat mine to perfect temperature during the hottest part of the day, then drape it every; night with a thick towel just around the seam keeping the vent holes and fan holes free. This works for me. The fluctuation in room temperature is what you are battling. I am using a Little Giant (or three) but I'm pretty much tired of the hassle with keeping the temperature even.

When I use a box, I lay t-shirts and/or a hoodie over it. This winter, I had to go so far as to lay my coat over it (with two huge t-shirts, an extra-large hoodie, and a bath towel I think, something large and thick like that at any rate).
That's just me.

Does it not have a thermostat? Are you having to control the temp manually all the time?

It has a thermostat, but it's not a smart thermostat. It will maintain a temperature so long as there are no outside variations. BUT if you change any of the environmental elements (humidity, warm, cold) the 'thermostat' is just too primitive to control the temperature to accommodate for the atmospheric changes.

SO, that said It is easier for me to train my thermostat on the hottest part of the day so it won't overheat my eggs while I am at work, then wrap a towel, socks or other laundry around the perimeter seam for added insulation at night when the house temperature drops 10 or 15 degrees so I can avoid turning the knob every day. The added insulation increases the temp by a degree or one and a half. I take the towel off in the morning when I go to work. !Turning the knob on these Little Giants is fine surgery to me. Very miniscule movements change the temperature a LOT. It's not something you can adjust and walk away from. If you touch that knob with eggs inside, you better have two hours to hover over it to be sure nothing's freezing or cooking! (just my experience).

I'm not sure what you mean when you say around the seam. Do you mean from the base to the bit that joins the lid to the base? Any chance I can get a pic so I can picture what you mean?
