i still prefer terrycloth towles/rags/washcloths/etc... buy a bundle of 100 'shop rags' for under $10 usually, and when they get nasty throw away. i always wash first tho before i use them, makes them a lot softer and they absorb water better. and you can literally bleach the CRAP out of them.

My name is Connie... I'm a BYC addict, Incubating Addict, Etc. Etc. I have all sorts of issues! LOL I am incubating 8 Silkies and 4 Americauna EE's. I got to candle them last night and looks like I have some keepers! This is so much fun. I hope to do some Frizzle eggs in February.... I love my girls and my Rooster, Wyatt Earp... he's a hoot!

welcome connie. Karen here. also an addict... to byc, hatching, candling, etc... currently with more birds/eggs/chicks than storage space for the adult birds that may be.

i'm playing catch up with coops at the moment, 14 adult birds, 1 of whom has 9 chickies living in a dog crate, 13 one month old chicks in tubs in the basement (no not bathtub, rubbermaid variety), 16 eggs in the hatcher and another 12 in the incubator and 7 more on the shelf calling to me... (plus whatever i get from the dorkings today...)

oh and i'm planning on adding 50+ quail eggs in another week or 2...

I am going through withdrawal. We had a snowstorm today and the water buckets have started freezing. My last bunch of hatchees are not almost 5 weeks and getting HUGE. I don't have heated brooders outdoors so the outside temp has to be close to what I need for temp to have chicks outside. I really want a heated garage but it's not going to happen this winter. So I am stuck not being able to hatch until after February when the world starts to warm up again. Any other people who aren't hatching this winter. About 128 days to go until warm weather.

Don't know if I will make it.

i need to finish this coop, make a grow-out coop for the chicks i'm planning to move outside, and then i'll have room in the brooder-coop for the hatching babies. LOL and build breeding pens for the birds that make the grade in the spring too.

I'm still lurking too. No freezing here, but my girls are still in molt.

I almost scored some turkey eggs but was a little slow on the draw.

Now I'm checking on quail eggs. I've covered the bators up so I can't see them, too depressing.Withdrawals stink.

ok all of you 'hatching by proxy' folk... i've got some good news!

in the hatcher i have bantam cochins showing progress... not positive on some, but i have at least 3 silver laced, 2 black/lavender, and 1 calico with at least internal pip (1 has externally pipped, and another cracked shell on the inside but not visible on outside).
