So I know I was going to shut the bator down at some point, but....i have the winning bid on two different sets of cream legbar eggs on eBay that ends in 2 hours. So...that wil put me close to the end of August. By then one of my young RIR Roos will be ready to go in with my br hens for sex links. Then I have to hatch like mad because a pullet raiser near me want 400 pullets. I just need to figure out what to do with all the cockerels! I WILL NOT cull at hatch like is done sometimes with sex links. I am not that heartless.

Grow out for a few weeks  and put in freezer camp. or sell as food.

Well I definitely don't need any, my main business is raising broilers and I keep plenty back for myself plus the occasional roo that I have to get rid of. I will probably just try to sell them for cheap, maybe like 50 cents a piece. The pullets will be going for $2 each so I will be making out ok on that, and I just have to make sure I get rid of all the males before I have to feed them much. I will be keeping a select few as a start to a rhodebar project

I have a question for you IA members. What Is a fair price on quail. I got some as extras with a swap and I don't want to keep them. They are hatching now and I need to list them for sale.
they sell at swaps from $1 each up to about $5... i made a deal with someone and he took all 7 of mine for $10.

i grow all my roos out, free range until they star sparring and crowing, then they go in the bachelor pad. feed up for a week or 2 and off to the next swap. got an old guy comes around and pays $5 each for the roosters. i doubt i have half that in them since they free range so much.

I free range all of mine at about 4 weeks old too. Plus they get a lot of veggie and fruit scraps from the store I work at. I have a guy that will buy a bunch of them but not that many. I am going to put up an add to try and line someone up that will take them either as chicks or after they are a few months old. Chicks will be best because they will need to be fed more because I am in Minnesota and they don't get much free rangin after September/October as everything is turning brown.

Ok fellow mad hatchers I need some help....a customer wants some cream legbars, as do I and I need to find some eggs soon! I normally wouldn't promise anything I don't have already but this is a great customer and I want to keep her happy. Can any of you point me in the right direction?

Edited to add: obviously i didn't win the eBay auction. Would have but my 16 month old son decided to fill his diaper! By the time I was done witht that mess it was too late to bid anymore. Should have set the max bid higher to start with I guess!

Sounds like you have my luck with the ebay auctions. I have to stay away from them. It's too addictive w/ all the eggs that are on there.

I am usually good, but when I see eggs that could go for a reasonable price and it is on a customer wanted list I bid on them. Since I didn't win th bid I will probably just buy them from someone on here.

I tried to help you... I sent your post on the BST sections to someone I know that has BOTH, but her Legbars are not laying yet and her SFH got mixed with the others so she can't be sure of purity of the eggs. I tried.....

Good luck on finding some. Don't you just love the anticipation of those auctions. I haven't figured them out on here yet. I'm still a newbie and have lots and lots to learn (w/ nothing to trade yet}. lol.

Maybe I can give you a few tips--I found the format difficult too initally, now it is easier with a little experience. THere are the swap threads AND the BUy-Sell-Trade section.

In the Buy Sell Trade section---

The auction format is that you make the next bid in a post.

We also use Buy It Now, BIN. In the Auction section , usually PM the seller if they have these regularly , otherwise add a post with MINE in it. Read the offer carefully to know which to do.

Have y ou seen the Crazy 24 hour Auction thread?? No swap required on that one !
