ok well the last of the self blue/split cochin eggs have hatched for a while. 8) had 4 hatch last week, 2 blacks 2 self blues, and yesterday i got 2 more self blues, tho 1 was shrink-wrapped. so now we wait. and hope for more pullets.

these eggs were set because the raccoons managed to take all my self blues hatched so far this year, AND all the blacks too... *knock on wood* (

?) they haven't been back. then again the dogs are being allowed to roam as much as they want, all hours of the day or night, so i think that helps.

i've got a bunch of eggs from donna cooking, as well as some blrw (tho i've had to toss way too many so far). so

that the ones left hatch... i REALLY want a trio or quad to set up for breeding next spring. besides the fact that these eggs are a customer's purchase, so she gets first pick on the chicks.

edit: ok make that 1 self blue from yesterday... the shrink wrapped one decided to go for a swim in the 1/4" of water i give the new babies.

I set a couple of pullet eggs from my big Hansom BBS Marans and the 2 splash and 1 black pullets, the eggs are really small, just stuck them in on a whim. I have 3 Blue (I think) babies, they don't seem to have any white. Very active little buggers, and so cute. They are hanging out with an RG poult from one of the trash eggs and 4 Cubalayas I got from a local. The Cubalayas are tiny too but LOUD. I called the guy cause I was concerned there was something wrong, he said they are all like that, very vocal (This may have been a mistake

I have a batch from Donna in lockdown and some JG due next week, a couple of RG turkey eggs with undetermined date but not too far out. Then I guess I'm thru for awhile. Wow that will be strange, tho I can't complain. I have so many in Juvie pens and I need to weed out the extra roos before winter.
DH has been after me to sell some of the guineas, there are probably 30 or so between the free ranging w/ broodys and the juvie pens, BUT I Don't Want Tooo

have to pick some I guess. Can't keep them all, now can I.

Are guineas good eating?? Just curious!!

Cubalayas would be much too loud for me!! I like the muscovey ducks because they are very quiet--the quackless duck. Keeps the noise level down around here.

I've had pullet eggs hatch so good luck with those from Handsome BBS, you might get a few.

Haven't ever eaten guinea, but We may find out soon if DH has anything to say about it.

Last two days have been good for hatching! All 8 cream legbars that started hatched and then 14/15 of my brs hached. Can't complain about that one bit. Next week I have 96 "Amish surprise" eggs due. I will finally get my on farm chicken count back up :D

Wednesday was a bad day! My brothers @&$&@ dog killed 16 chickens and 1 duck. Luckily they were all males but it still is money lost and makes me upset. I told him to come and get his dog or I will get rid of it for him. He picked up the dog last night. Sad part is the dog didn't completely kill all of them so I ended up finishing them off. That sure made for a bad day off of work!
