New Egg Cartons at the feed stores here cost as much as eggs. 99 cents or $1.19 per carton. silly people.

I would like to think that with all the washing store bought eggs have to go through the cartons would be pretty clean.... they are after I use Oxine on them

I use them to collect eggs in first then they make it to the hatcher.... several washings in the middle too.

Wow - 1.19 a carton.. good grief! Did you try Tractor Supply Company? I think that's where I got mine. I recall the feedstore was higher.. but not that much higher!

The egg cartons would be clean - if no eggs ever broke in them, if nobody ever opened them, if nobody touched them with their hands inside or outside.. I just don't want to chance it with the used cardboard ones. If you use the styro ones they can get pretty clean with your method, but I'm not sure if it would work as well with the cardboard ones. And I would not use new ones, not at that price.. yikes. Back to paper towels...

I haven't ever washed my hatching eggs. I was told not to. The hen puts a coating on the egg when they lay it that protects them from bacteria called the "bloom". And it works great! I have had poopy muddy eggs from my birds hatch. I just knock off the big chunks...

I would wash the egg trays though - and if I use the styro cartons I would wash those too.

I still have to figure out what I am going to do with these large eggs I have to set...

Thank you! I was just looking at a Hovabator (still air) on incubatorwarehouse.com, but the shipping was about pretty high up there (I hate to shop online, i'd rather go get stuff myself and not pay the store to send it LOL!) But I guess I may have to break down and get one shipped LOL!!!

I'd go with the Genisises too. I have an older Hovabator and like it. But the update look really good. I would definitly stay away from still air!! It is cheaper but comes with it's own set of problems, like hot spots. You will want to do a couple of test hatches too, before you put any shipped or important/expensive eggs in. Practice , and when you get it right and feel comfortable, then you get those important eggs.

you can stack them but you will need to turn the top layer by hand - you must have fan forced or the upper level will over heat

X 2 or you could try a book. My turner quit on me a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of a staggered hatch of shipped and my own eggs. I am tilting the Hova for one side to the other by putting a book under and moving it 3xs a day. I now have about a doz guinea eggs stacked on top as well. DS looked at the turner motor and said it could not be fixed so I'l wait till these are all out, then replace the motor.

BTW I did one more tweak to the hatcher..... I unplugged that extra tiny fan I added at the bottom. I didn't remove it just unplugged it. Lets see if that help with shrink wrapping.

fingers crossed :D...

It helped me alot with shrink wrap when i put in a baffle in front of the fan so that the air flow didn't blow onto the eggs...

Well more babies due this weekend, 27 easter eggers due tomorrow and 4 good duck eggs left for Sat. since chick sales haven't been as fast as I'd like I haven't put any new eggs in this week...
