I need to report that my incubator is officiall full. THe first time it has happened. FULL. Not one more egg will fit. I am in IA for a reason. lol

Need hatcher to empty out so I can move a few egg over!!!!!

I have a few questions if someone can help.... There is a nest of Canadian goose eggs (2 or 3) right by my house, the mother was with them when we saw them yesterday, we ha vent seen her AT ALL today.... we have been taking time out throughout the day to run over and check (we stay pretty far away and quiet so if she IS around we don't scare her... not like that's a prob, we found her originally a week or so ago by getting too close and she chased us half way home! LOL). I want to send DH out again to grab them if shes no there still, but IDK if I can put them into my bator with my runner eggs. Should I get them or leave em? Is it safe to put them with my runner eggs? Do they incubate at the same temp & humidity? HELP! Does anyone know? If I'm gonna grab them, I wanna do it before it gets any colder tonight. Oh and should I clean them up so they don't bring germs into my bator with my runners?

If you haven't done so already, please research Canadian Geese. They are a protected species and there are a lot of restrictions and fines for owning them illegally... another person had a similar situation and the finally decided to call a person who has license to hatch them...

So now that i have two broody hens sitting on eggs in the coop, i'm a bit worried about what to do with them. I have never had broody hens. Do i need to move them out of the coop to a new nest, and if i do that will they decide to stop sitting in the eggs? do i need to separate them or can they go together.

i was thinking of leaving them where they are until about 2 weeks and then move them, or should i move them now.

Also when the chicks hatch do they have to have their own pen?

the logistics are killing me i seem to be constantly building chicken pens.. LOL!!!

very definately an incubator addict. I have a home made incubator and a seperate home made hatcher which means that I can incubate eggs every six days, I cannot wait to hatch every three weeks, the suspense is just too great.

I went out to see if shes back today. She was gone all of yesterday and is back today. She's still not on her eggs though. I'm not messing around with fines and protected species! lol. I'm just gonna let nature take it's course in this situation! I can't stand Canadian geese anyway, they are vicious lol, I just wanted to help the babies then set them free once they were old enough. IDK why they are protected, they can't be low in #'s, they are EVERYWHERE in PA, everywhere we go we see several flocks of them!! Thanks for the info

They are super mean, and they are EVERYWHERE! We took the kids for a walk in a park and we saw a bunch in the grass, we stayed on the walkway and the kids stopped to look at them (we were ATLEAST 20 feet away and there were no babies with them), well my 3 yr old (1 1/2 at the time) took ONE STEP closer and one of the geese started hissing and ran after her, I had to grab her and my other youngest daughter and tell my other 2 kids to run! It was comical after the fact, but OMG! Someone else walked by a little later (we CROSSED TO THE OTHER WALK WAY TO GET BACK TO THE CAR) and she wasn't so lucky, they chased her, she thought nothing of it and got bit on the butt! LMAO! she took them seriously then and ran. They can be evil! lol

if there's only 3 eggs, chances are she wasn't done laying her nest. she won't incubate until she's got a bunch more. if she didn't come back today, chances are she decided to move because she saw you checking it out...

when you find a wild nest, best thing to do is leave it alone as long as possible. turkey or goose. if you want to collect eggs, i'd let her start sitting solid for a week or so, then take some but not all of the eggs. let her be a momma too. 8) same goes for turkeys. if they feel watched, they'll abandon what they've started and relocate.

i've got more experience with turkey than goose, so no idea of the legality to collecting waterfowl eggs. wild eastern turkeys are all over the place. i have yet to find a nest this year tho. LOL

If geese hiss at you do not run. Do not turn around either. Make your self bigger (arms out and lean forwards) and hiss right back at them. They are mostly bluff. They will run at you - but if you stand your ground facing them they will stop and turn away. The key is to be bigger and meaner than they are...
