Incubators Anonymous

My FIRST poult of year has arrived!!! IT is a sweetgrass, or a calico. All whitish-cream !! Moved the cornish X into own quarters for the remaining weeks. Definitely not good to raise them with std chickens. Soooo doesn't work.

This is a situation where you need to make the decision that you are comfortable with. YOu can leave the eggs and see what happens, knowing it could result in a total loss and are you comfortable with that. Or if you are not, doyou have an incubator to finish the hatching? If you can hatch them out and then test her with the babies after hatching under a very watchful eye. No right or wrong-- your choice.

I chose to just grabbed then hen i got the chick and put it in the incubator i got the other 3 eggs and put them in and i separated the chick with a piece of cardboard from the other 3 eggs as i heard it can damage the other baby chicks while they are hatching i was told that the chicks jump over the egg if this is not true please tell me and i will take the cardboard away. The chick is ok and i heard a cheep from one of the eggs all going fine hope ill find 4 baby chicks in the morning

Since you are using shipped eggs I would give the chicken eggs 10 days before taking them out.  Sometimes the shipping delays any growth.  After 10 days I would call those with no veining clears and remove them.  Some people leave them in until the candling on the 18th day when they go into lockdown though.  If they don't smell and you don't need the room you can leave them in.

No clue on the turkeys though - perhaps try those at 10 days too?

Thanks for the tips guys :)

Had my first BCM hatch this morning and the second is pip'd and ready. Others should be right behind. So glad these worked out! Although I am already looking for more eggs to hatch

I am very glad you have them safe. The lively one might move the hatching eggs and that would confuse the chicks inside - that's why they say not to put fully hatched chicks in with the eggs. I put mine in cardboard egg cartons with the aircell up, that way the chicks that hatch can't knock the hatching eggs around - but they can still peep at them. Sometimes having a peeping buddy will help them hatch because they want to be out to TALK to the other one!

I hope you see 4 cuties in the incubator tomorrow~

The baby chick is doing fine starting to walk about a bit more the hatching chick has made a little more progress not much an i candled the kther to eegs u can see rhe chick moving in pne i think i t has pecked into the air sac but the other one i think is still inside
