is it spring yet?

I sold ALL my EE pullets a couple of BR pullets and some roos to go with them

Now to get the roo guy to show up to get the roos.
And I set 100, that has my cabinet full until i move the first batch into the hatcher. I love my Buff Rocks, they are big fat, fluffy birds and they lay a LOT of eggs. Donna, what line were those FBCM from that I got from you? I have a rotten memory.

IDK.... he told me they were all in there LOL. I still have 3 of my original birds from him. I am getting some nice dark eggs this generation. I have a new layer that is laying darker than this one.... I have about 3-4 laying that dark of an egg. The new layer is with a hatch mate.... I don't normally hatch eggs from those matings but if he has the same dark egg genes too and I missed that mating I would be mad. So they are in they bator to see what I get. He is also covering a Split Am for Olive Eggers.... might be a nice combo.

Super jealous of that amazingly dark egg on the right..

Getting ready to try setting eggs again in a month! I moved my EE roo over to my layer coop on Friday. He's in the dog crate right now so they wouldn't beat up on him too much. He's about 6mo old. I'm probably going to let him out today and see if they are alright with him. Is it reasonable to think that I could set eggs in a month, or do you think he'll be too immature still? Some of the pullets are almost a year, others are 6-8mo old.

He should be old enough to breed, but every bird is different. You should find out pretty quickly if he starts courting behavior with the hens, but if he's the only roo in there and at that age, I would think he would do his job.

OK. That's what I was hoping for. I have 5 boys to choose from, and I could throw one of the splash wyandottes in there too if he needs some competition with the 14 girls that are in there. (Only about 5 of which are actually laying right now.

With 14 hens you may want to have a second roo. I think 1:10 is a good ratio so with more than that he may not be able to cover them all, but I don't know. Maybe someone else that may have numbers like this can comment.
