Incubators Anonymous

I'm currently incubating in two hovabator 1588 digital incubators. One is mine and the other is borrowed. Having trouble getting up to temp in one of them. It's been running for two days and it still isn't quite up to 37.5 C. Does anyone know if this is normal for this model?

I have two of those also and haven't had any problems with the temp. It always stays within a few tenths of a degree. The only quirk I noticed is that when I have water in the tray (for the one that I use as a hatcher), the humidity at the level of the tray is waaay different from the humidity measured by the computer. So, I always use a separate hygrometer in my hatcher and don't even look at the humidity on the display. For the one I use as an incubator only, the display is accurate because I don't add any water to the tray so the readings are the same at the top and at the bottom. I have had my best hatches in the Genesis and if it weren't that I'm considering a cabinet style I'd probably own two more of them, lol.

Maybe the one you have needs repair? Is it in the same location as the other one that is holding steady? How old is it? When you increase the set temp the actual temp doesn't change?

Quote: I have a separate thermomenter/hygrometer with a probe and it's been calibrated for accuracy.. I just ignore the computer humidity reading too. lol It gets up to about 37.3 C but is set to 102.6 F, so a huge difference. The two incubators are literally side by side on the same table in the same room. I opened it to add some water to one of the channels and it has taken literally 6 hours now to ALMOST get back up to temp! It's my friend's and is a year old, I think... Mine is working fine. Opening it for a minute is no problem and it bounces right back up within a few minutes. I'll bump it up more and watch it. I haven't slept in two nights trying to get the temps right.. not good! lol

Sounds like there is something wrong with it, that's definitely not right. I love mine because when I need to use the hatcher I can start it up and and hour later it's ready to put eggs in! Is it possible there is dust or chick fluff clogging things up? Maybe it got wet from being cleaned, or needs new wiring.

i do the same with my older style hovabators... i've got the thermostats locked down pretty well with lock nuts and they haven't budged in well over a year, even tho they've been on/off/moved/cleaned repeatedly. so now 3 are 'plug n play', the 4th is still a headache, at least until i find a good fan then i'll tinker with it.

She said it used to work perfectly and then she started having poor hatches in it. It's clean.. I noticed the temp issue when I put my probe in to check temps. It's now set at 205.6 and is still reading 37.3C. It may have gotten wet cleaning it, but I ran it for multiple hours before putting eggs in. I wish I didn't have so many eggs right now!

Nice! Hoping to get there with my 1602N hatcher.. I'm starting to get a feel for it. Hoping for a plug n play set up soon! lol

Would I be better off moving the egg to the 1602 and using the wonky one as a hatcher? It wouldn't need to get up nearly so high to hatch in.. I just don't want to break it!

pretty eggs. the coco marans I have seen dont go that dark: here is mine in homemade incubator:
the dad is coco maran the moms are many kinds-the eggs are not showing true colors in pic they are from the top row from left cream colored, tan colored, greeny-yellow /w spots., bottom row starting from left, brown, blue and the Coco maran egg/with spots.

this is inside my bator, the bowl is for fire safety, little white water dish under bowl. 15 w 8''x9'' box.

here is the batch I hatched from diff bator last month
:
the babies will lokk like the black ones. the EE's are from another farm.
