Quote: actually, she had them all covered when i went out to check (and i did turn on the heat emitter, so it'll be a bit warmer in there overnight) we'll see how they are doing tomorrow... it was raining when i went and checked, didn't want to chill the babies bringing them back in. they're safer with her for now.

and buffy may have a permanent home if she turns out to be superbroodymomma... 8) save me a LOT of work potentially. especially once they're old enough to start exploring with her.

Wow, she sounds like a keeper. I do know my mother had one small OEG that broodied and took care of 21 of her own chicks. Once they started growing it was hard for them to fit underneath her - she usually slept in the corner of a box so they could crowd around her and she spread her wings wide - and there were always heads peeping out under her wings.. very cute.

For sure. Buffs are the best. She does all the work. I hope I have a broody hen when some of my bator babies hatch. I have 3 going now. One is a Hova with the digital thermostat and humidity read out. I LOVE it. The other two are really old with no fan or anything and really tricky. This is my first hatch to try the lower humidity. Keeping it about 30%.

Just set 50 eggs! I am super super excited about these, Blue & Gold Partridge Brahmas, Dark Brahmas, Sulmtalers, and the first eggs from my LC and Lav orps

I actually had to pick up another Genesis today to accommodate...I had two LG's in the closet, fired up one last week to lockdown some other eggs but when I remembered what a PIA it was to keep @ temp I realized I would be better off just getting another Genesis and forgetting the LG's altogether!!! So glad I did, nothing like a fire & forget bator. So, now I have my 4 HB's going, and still need a hatcher, LOL. The next new bator I buy will be a Dickey

Question, I have never had this happen before and not quite sure how to fix it. I have the hatcher full (not the first time I have done that
hide.gif
) but they started hatching yesterday. They were fine this morning and some had even hatched. By the end of the day in one of the boxes one chick that hatched died, another 2 that had pipped died and one that had zipped died. I just don't know what is going on. There are 3 BIG holes for ventilation, and I get in there a couple of times a day. Humidity is fine. I can only figure it is too hot, but nothing is showing me that. I lowered the temp a little, figured lower is better than cooking them.

Any IDEAS?

What breed(s) were the ones that died?
