I'm a hatchaholic!

First hatch of 2013 was a test hatch for fertility of my Cream Legbar boy, from 12 eggs only 4 fertile and only 2 hatched (1 Copper Black Marans X Cream Legbar and 1 Warren X Cream Legbar) both doing well but the Marans cross looks like a boy.

My incubator is full again, have 6 eggs due to hatch on 20th April and 18 due on the 29th April but these haven't been candled yet.

Hello, my name is Liesa and I'm a hatch-o-holic. It's been 2 days since my last hatch. It was a hard hatch for 2 American Buff Goslings and I had to resist the urge to help the babies out of the shell. In the past I used 3 Hova-bators and 2 Little Giants, but last year I graduated to a cabinet and I have another cabinet that is getting fixed. I have friends that I do consignment hatching for - you can call them 'enablers.'

Currently my cabinet is full of American Buff eggs, Saxony eggs, BSW Turkey eggs, Delaware, Buckeye, Black Java and Red Dorking eggs. And I'm supposed to get some bantam Barred Polymouth Rocks - tomorrow, I think.

It's a good thing I don't have more room or more coops...

I think Oz deserves a special prize as being the biggest hatchaholic amongst us! Sure, some others might have a few more incubators or set more eggs at a time, but do they do it in two countries 7500 miles apart???? Do they hand carry eggs onto airplanes in specially designed packaging material? Carefully planned to avoid being xrayed and hand checked only? LoL! Luv ya Oz!

Its also her Birthday today!! She just got the 3 dozen roses I sent and is going out to dinner with her family tonight. Its tough to be apart fro times like this.

Mrs Oz says she wont mind taking back a box of eggs in her golf bag. I can get one styrobator full - 42 in a box.

Now I have to pour over my notes on what to send. If I get super fresh local eggs she will have 4 days to get them to the farm and bernie to set. Maybe its a good time for 24 cuckoo marans and 18 white ameraucana to get the colored egg layers started - or maybe 42 white local guinea fowls - or perhaps 24 turkey eggs. oh my, such decisions. It does not really matter because I get to see my best friend and soul mate for 10 days and 10 nights - 243 hrs actually!!

With my USA I will use a seperate hatcher going forward. I have been using my hovabator 1588. I havent done staggered hatches up until now so I have just used small plastic baskets - 4 fit in the HB to separate breeds. My hatcher is the "bordeaux bator" I made last weekend that is linked in my signature. My "display case" bator we built over Easter in the Philippines is big enough to put small shopping baskets into so I can separate the breeds and control the chaos. I do have duck eggs in there so I will pull them out on day 19 - after the cotournix hatch in my styrobator and hatch the pekins in there.

Hi, my name is Ashley and I'm a hatchaholic. My incubator has been turned off for 3 days now and this would be the first time in 5 months. I believe I am having withdrawal symptoms...

I have used all of my effort staying away from craigslist, ebay, and the buy/sell/trade forums. But none the less, everyone has their moments. I will be picking up a pair of Sebastopol geese this weekend and I will be hatching every egg she lays as well as others.

I use a Genesis for incubating and a hovabator 1602N for hatching.

Sally, I'm sorry to say this, but you have a problem.

How many eggs you have hatched within the past 4 months? How many days were you able to go with your incubator off?
