Incubators Anonymous

Hello, I'm Sheila and I'm a TOTAL addict. I hatched some ducks last year, and then this year i ordered som ancona eggs , and i found several in the lake and got two of those to hatch, along with 4 ancona duckies. That batch is 2 weeks old, and yesterday I got 6 more eggs..Cuyoga this time. I also won an auction for 10 mandarins and 12 call ducks. And I bid on some pin tails...Ahhh...I've actually had really great luck with shipped eggs in my brinsea incubator. When i run out of room in that I have to put them in my foam incubator and my hatch rate drops through the floor..from about 90% to about 40% (probably good since i'd have like 40 ducks by now.) I don't know how to stop, i just am obsessed with all the different kinds and seeing if they'll hatch!

I'll just put this out there for the newest members of IA...

IA is all about CURING your addiction. ie, helping you find MORE eggs to hatch, improving your hatch rates, and discouraging those who want to stop.

I have a question. I moved out of my farm and now live in a regular house. I am still hatching and planning a backyard flock (can't help myself), but in the move I misplaced the dividers of my incubator. I currently have my eggs in egg cartons in the incubator. When it comes time to hatch I plan to move my eggs into my Genesis (they are crowded in my Brinsea) and wondering:

Should I take the eggs out of the egg cartons and lay them down, or keep them in their current upright positions in the egg cartons?

Hello, everyone. My name is John and while I do not have an incubator at this time, I insisted on getting a Black Copper Marans rooster (Roscoe) to go along with our hens and my wife lives in terror of an incubator "appearing" at our house. Can someone talk me out of this?

I hatch all of mine upright in egg cartons. I cut down the sides so they don't impede the chicks when they emerge. When I put the eggs in the hatcher, I candle to see where the low side of the air cell is, and I turn them all in the same direction that way they will all pip on the side facing me

I saw this post and decided I needed to read it. See my family thinks I'm crazy. They can't seem to understand my addiction. I started hatching last year. I now have over 60 chickens and the incubator has another 10 in there. I'm kinda relieved to see this is to cure my addiction and make it my way of life. Lol. I can now let my family know they don't have to worry. I am getting help.
