Me too, only I don't wanna grow up!
I was surprised that all the chicks fared as well as they did after the hot spot issues. All the chicks that were over heated yesterday seemed fine. I did have a few shrink wrapped babies by most were ok. I did have several that pipped and died... I hate when they do that.
I have one basket that NOTHING has hatched out of ... 1 pipped and died. the same thing happened last hatch too... half were the same breeds... strange. I have not give up on them yet. I will leave all unhatched eggs a few more days. Can't hurt anything. Just hope we don't lose power tonight. Strong storms are coming through, but more to the north but could come through were the farm is.![]()
I hatched 12/14 MFL 7/10 Eng Orps only a few Exchequer Leghorns hatched18 eggs shipped and only 8 developed....
I can make more down the road. All in all it was a pretty good hatch. I got some Silkies, some Sex Links, some wheatens, SBEL. I don't know how many I put in LD but I bet I have over 100 chicks.![]()
i feel everyones pain
i just ordered a second hovabator
i have buff orpingtons & silkies everywhere
i told my wife i might have to start putting some in her closet
for some reason she didn't think it was all that good of an idea......just not sure why![]()
piglett
box em up & ship them to my place in new hampshireWell it sounds like it is improving - you had only a few shrink-wrapped ones this time.
On the basket that didn't hatch - what were they? Were they the Exchequer Leghorns? Were they from the same person/area of the country? I think we might have to make a map of where the eggs came from/where they went to - and the hatch rates to see if we can figure out where the post office is killing the eggs...
power stays on for you.![]()
100 chicks.. and here I am wondering what to do about the next 16 in a week with the 9 I already have.. Broody mammas are going to take care of the 20 they are sitting on..phew!![]()

Um.. put them in YOUR closet - you might find out why...
aw shucks Oz, I'm a newbie when it comes to this really, just started hatching last fall. BUT I found an awesome redwood incubator and since I figured out how to get the humidity UP enough for hatching, it is almost automatic. I do hand turn the eggs tho, as I would have to reset the trays to make room for auto turners. This thing has been running since late Feb and the hatches just keep getting better. Now if only more of them were pullets!awesome hatch rates. i wanna be like you when i grow up
