Incubators Anonymous

Tetris stacking? That scares me lol I don't think I'm into the degree of addiction that it takes for a cabinet incubator.

So maybe there's hope for me after all?
You forgot the 18 chickens I already have. haha 15 of those are hens. :p I actually have a buyer for the quail I hatch out so those won't be a problem. I have a large run for the adults, and a large run for 'teenagers'. My hubby is working on a 'toddler' pen right now! I have brooders under his shop for the youngens until they are ready to go outside and be toddlers. I keep the chicks in the house for 2 weeks as well. So I have lots of stages before they get to be teenagers. I have a plan! haha I do have 5 acres of pasture I can build more pens on if needed.
My plans for the ones I don't want to keep...eat the roosters (

) and the pullets I will give to friends and family that may want them. If no one takes them then I will definitely keep them. I love all my birds. I really just like the whole incubating/hatching process. It keeps my mind off the whole babymaking process. (Mine, not the chicken's)

Well, then I don't see any problems at all - WELCOME TO INCUBATOR'S ANONYMOUS - where we will HELP you decide you NEED a BIGGER INCUBATOR!

Um.. you didn't list the 18 chickens you already have in the first post - and that is still under 100.... Are any of those bantams? Because those only count as 1/2...

P.S. - eat the roosters is a much better plan than try to sell them... You can sell the hens a lot easier...

HELP!!!!!

OK, so we are new (first hatch in bator now), we THINK we are at day 21 on our runner duck egg incubation, we looked at pics to get an idea of what to look for in the way of sizing the air sac. It seems smaller than it should be to me,(It did yesterday too, so I dropped hum to 50 and candled for the official day 21 candle to check progress). There was a bit of receding in the air sac, but not as much as I'd like, so I dropped hum down to between 40-43, but after fixing the bator, candling, and wiping the eggs down a bit (i was told that may help them "sweat more" and the air sac to grow) well, I put them back in and put a thermometer on top of them (there's only 2 eggs left) and they are moving a lot... the thermometer is rocking... Idk if we are further than day 21, or if this is normal. I need to know if I should up the hum to 70 and lock down, or if this is OK and they always do this so I should leave it low for the air sac to progress further.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You might want to post this on the runner duck thread. They are more use to hatching ducks. Good Luck!

How do you do it?! I lived in an apt my whole life, when we moved to our 1st house 5 1/2 yrs ago (we moved to a bigger house in March), we moved b/c the apt was too small for me, the hubby, 3 kids and a cat LOL! I guess I'm one of those ppl who need a large ammt of space for everything. We moved to a 5 bdrm house b/c having 3 bdrms and 4 kids wasn't enough breathing room for me LOL! (1 boy, 3 girls). God bless you and I hope you have a GREAT outcome with your hatch!

. I just posted a question b/c I am a nervous wreck about my 2 eggs I have in the bator now! I hope someone answers soon, I have been over at the bator every few mins peeking for a pip or something!

I'd be pacing too if I wasn't sitting at the PC waiting for info! I hope my babies are ok!!!

well i do have 2.5 acres in the Philippines - but here in the US I just hatch to feed the addiction. I give myself 3 days to sell the chicks then I have a few good friends I will give them to. I have pre-sold 8 basques and 15 swedish flower hens. I have mottled houdans and polish accounted for. I will advertise on craigslist the Ameracaunas and the remaining swedes. Then the few left, I will give away. I have 60 sussex eggs next

lol..this is what I fear. I'm already wanting to buy another HovaBator Genesis to replace one of the other 3 incubators I have! I'm not big time enough for a cabinet, but maybe in a couple years I will be.

and ozexpat....omg lol...You may definitely have a problem! I think there's a 1-800 number you can call. It's a pretty awesome hobby to have though. I stare at my eggs through the incubator window for at least 10 minutes daily. After they go into lockdown, it's probably an hour total per day!

I can't wait until we can afford a nice 5 bdrm with LOTS of land! I love my privacy! LOL (and lots of animals! My kids would be in heaven on lots of land with an abundance of critters to love & care for <3 )

I did an incubator building workshop at the san diego meet up last weekend. I had people asking me to sell them incubators. You may see Oz incubators going mainstream LOL.

I have a pip! two days to hatch, three days to sell. the adventure continues

that's really cool
