Incubators Anonymous

lol. same delimma here. I hatched about 34 EE &OE chicks for myself, along with about a dozen BO. Then I appeared to have lost my mind and hatched about 150 for sale..... I have sold about half of them.... now what to do with the rest????

I have found a huge difference in demand for purebred chicks as opposed to Mixes (unless special mix like olive egger etc:) your EExOE should sell fine.. keep Selling. Remember the results you get from sales are directly proportional to the amount of time you put in on selling.. :).. good luck!

one thing i did was stop by all the feed stores and fruit stands on my way home from work one day and introduced myself and gave them my info etc: nothing more than that... I made alot of good contacts just in one afternoon.. another thing i do is give them a few free sample of eggs (works so well with Marans eggs

Sorry the incident may bave had a negative impact on the hatch-- you won't know the full effect until the hathing period is over. You can open the eggs at the top, going thru the air cell to see if any movement. Just be sure to keep moisture level up. Are the vents wide open?? Hoping for the best. <img alt="fl.gif" id="user_yui_3_7_3_1_1368139713465_1475" I got my temperature and humidity back down to where its supposed to be real quick.. so now they are constant. If I open an egg up and I see movement won't that kill the baby - if its not already dead?

It's official I've lost my mind. I did an inventory of my bators and have 100+ eggs in 3 different bators.Barnyard mix,Olive egger, EE (3 types), silked Americana, Hamburgs, silkies, light Sussex, Mille Fleur leghorn, blue Orpington, golden polish, Welsummer, Porcelain D'Uccle, Partridge Penedesenca, Barnvelder, and 5 types of marans. It's a good thing my hubby doesn't look in my craft room. Now where am I going to put all these little fuzzy butts?
i'm actually down on eggs right now... just set 42 in the hatcher, but 2 were already zipping when I moved the rest! forgot a couple eggs from my broody girl when I gave her chicks instead, and had just put them with the group they looked closest to... so I was 2 days off. LOL but I've got 2 cute little bantam blrw x ?? mixes. I think ee on one, cochin on the other. be curious to see what the cochin looks like, depending who the 'baby daddy be'. crossing fingers it was my silver laced cochin roo. at least then it'll be laced.

I've got dark Cornish (lf) sfh, blrw (lf) and mille fleur cochin due this round. more mfc and ee next round, plus just set some more mfc and sfh this week.

i'll be getting a big batch of sfh the 18th, we're going to be doing some 'testing' to see if I can figure out why some chicks are hatching 'goopy'. i'm dry incubating and some hatch normally but others look wet and the goo is almost syrupy-sticky. causing a bunch of the goopy ones to get stuck and need help, or just quit all together, because they pip but then can't breathe because of the goo in their nostrils.

I have shipped guineas and mallards hatching today in the RP. One guinea out one pipped, looks like 3 more internally pipped. One mallard zipping 2 internally pipped. Fingers crossed, i have to go get some sleep.
I have 3 broody hens sitting on my guinea eggs now too.

thank you for the ideas. Yes I will soon have my new chicken house built with breeding pens so can offer more variety.

Quote: You can candle and look for movement. Or open a tiny hole in the large end. Mixed opionions on the latter. In my experience by the time I am opening the end to have a look , they have already expired. You can also do nothing, and just wait and see. No right answer here. Do what y ou are comfortable with. good luck.
