a radiator and similar heating/cooling systems would have a liquid flowing thru, and the fins are used as a heat exchanger. since it doesn't appear to be fluid filled,

this looks more like a resistive heating setup, where current is passed thru the metal and the resistance of the metal is causing it to heat up... i'll ask hubby (the automotive and electronics wiz) a bit later and see what he thinks.

do you have any larger/higher quality images?
ok he agreed, it's a resistive heating setup, where the flow of electricity from one point to another is causing the heat. he said it's the flow of electricity that causes the heat, not the resistance to flow... I had it backwards.
Karen, you were way ahaead of my know what this thing was, but I did understand what you meant with out your hubbies clarifications.

No Donna I'm not stalking you!

I just had to pop in to make my head swell. Thanks everyone , I'm really , REALLY glad you like it. I had some ideas for your next one Donna but we'll talk about that in person. As far as names for it go how about " the Grey Ghost"? Or is ghost in the name a bad omen?
Yes you are

Glad you got to read all the accolades for your GREAT WORK! How big is your head now?

Do I need a next one?

This one is going to last a LONG time! If we make another one it can't be any heavier

that thing about KILLED us unloading it. I am going to put caster on the bottom so we can move it better.

Not going to name anything ghost... I have enough trouble with my current hatcher I don't need that name on this one. How about the Spruce Goose? After that BIG AIR PLANE Howard Hughes made.

I need some help I was given 5 turkey eggs and I've hatched chickens before with about a 80% average but I'm new to turkeys I know there is not much difference but when these eggs were laid one cracked and leaked on the five I got now and made mud get on them but the mud was made out of egg and dirt but anyways they been in the bator about a week and when I open it it smells so bad but I don't think they are rotten any ideas all help is apreciated

you could try picking them up and sniffing them individually, sometimes there is just one that smells, i've had that a couple of times. I don't know about turkeys at all, can you candle them to see if they are developing?

good luck!

personally i would try rinsing the eggs under warm/hot water (slightly warmer than the egg itself). no soap or anything, don't scrub, but run the water over the egg for a minute or so, using a light brushing motion with your hands to loosen any goo/mud. it could be the broken egg's contents are starting to go bad, and that could be pulled into the egg. warmer water will help keep the egg from pulling in anything while it's being rinsed off.

also, once you've rinsed them off, any stinkers/leakers will be more obvious i would think, simply from a change in coloration.

How do you reduce humidity in Little Giant still air? Its at 33% with just eggs in it. I know it should be around 20% for a dry hatch. I don't want to plug all the vents as fresh air is needed.

That looks like some kind of radiant/radiator heat source. I have never seen one in an incubator like it before. Reminds me of something used in a car...

Are you going to use it, or are you going to replace it with another type? Does it work?

I am using it now. I have searched and search for something similar to this. It got damaged during shipping to me. My hubby had to remount the fan/heat source. I think it has air escaping issues as at first temp were coming on at 94ish and going off at like 104ish. But when you up the temp it cuts on at like 98 but goes to 112!!! Not it takes only 30 total seconds to go from lowest to highest and about 2 minutes or so to come back down. I'm new and at first was doing the average of the temps, idk if that was right or not. Now after taping seams, paper towel on the door crack and a pair of jeans on top of it lol I have the temp coming on at 98 going up to 102. Much better. It has a wafer thermostat and and you can hear it click on and then right back off. The meat probe I have stuck at the top of the first tray of eggs. That is under a board. I'll see about posting more pictures. Thank you so much for the reply!

soooo......I have more eggs on the way. no clue where I'm going to put all these birds come winter, but I'll figure it out then!

This new shipment (plus some of my new cross from my Wyandotte roo over my Wyandotte hens, barred rock and black australorp) will be my first round in my genesis. Now the question is, do I trust the readout on the genesis for temp and humidity, or do I still stick all my thermometers and hygrometer in there too?
