Just a word of caution-- TIm Ackerson writes about how to feather sex and cautions about the birds from hatchery stock. He lists which breeds can be crossed to english and american breeds to have the sexlinked effects of feather sexing.  His information indicated cross breeds are used to allow this type of sexing.  ( see his thread).

Yes They can feather sex Their chicks, but who knows what they mixed them with to be able to do that. Those chicks have been specificly bred to be feather sexed. Does not mean that the same would be true of chicks from any other line.

the chicks were stuck in their egg ones membrane was half openeing but rock stiff solid and another was sticky like glue i tried to help them by cracking the top part of and they did the rest one is sticky and the other is kinda like that today do to temps outside the eggs humidity went up and down like crazy temp did so aswell i dont think anymore will hatch. What should i do with the sticky chick and what shoud i do about the other one.

Glad you got the 2 at least. Sorry about the rest. What was you humidity reading during incubation the first 18 days?

I have had a few that needed help with a little cleaning. I run wrm water ( 100 degrees) and carefully mind where the the head and nostrils are to keep water off the head. and rinse under water and rub gently with fingers. Others wash with a cotton ball--just warm water.

Thne put back into incubator to fluff.

Sometimes they need a little PT to get legs going correctly. SOmetimes works , sometimes not. Pm me if you want details.

This sucks, day 20 and humidity was low so I shifted 2 eggs so I could add h2o. Then I dropped 1 of the 3 golden polish eggs on the table busting it wide open.

.On the up side now I know they survived the temp. spike last week.

I am so sorry - it is really tough to loose them that close to hatch.

Here's

for some to make it out of the eggs on their own..

Can you try the straw through the hole trick or pouring warm water without moving the eggs? I don't dare move them much because I am fumble fingers.. so I found interesting ways to avoid that...

all is well for the 3 chicks they all are jumpy and cute in the brooder and it seems they dry faster outside the incubator the black one was washed blow dried then put in the brooder and is a little cute energetic ball the other one that was flipped is ok but its bleeding from one of its wings what should i do the blood seems still wet and sometimes theyd get tired and fall on their behinds the bedding is aspen. Also there is more pipping in the incubator yay but their a problem wont bacteria grow from the other chicks that hatched i took out whatever debris i could and their is still duck eggs inside aswell they are still turning will this affect them in anyway when should i sterilize.

I am glad your three are doing well.

The one that is bleeding from its wings - did it get scraped? You can put something on it to stop the bleeding (even white flour will work) as long as the other chicks aren't picking on it. If they do pick at it, take it out until the bleeding had stopped so they won't pick on it.

Yes, newborns sometimes get tired and fall on their behinds, sometimes they fall asleep on their heads, sometimes they fall asleep in their food.. its funny to watch and they all do that.

Hooray for more pipping in the incubator - hopefully more will hatch. Just watch them because you have already had sticky chicks...

Once ALL your chicks hatch you can take the duck eggs out - wrap them in a warm towel and scrub the incubator out really well. You don't want to leave any sticky goop in there while the duck eggs incubate. That's where the bacteria will grow.

another one hatched i also got some feed its purina start and grow medicated sun fresh is this good it says for chicks from day 1 to 18 to 20 weeks its a bit big but i can crush it. # chicks are so far 2 days of a ge and one hatched today when should i give this.

You can go ahead and put it and water in their brooder now, they will eat when they are hungry and you may have to show them where it is.
