I dry hatch and this works for me-I check eggs before lock down, and if I see too much albumen in the egg I wait on my lockdown because they don't need more moisture until they absorb what they have. when they need more moisture in the bator is when they are pipping. If they got shrink wrapped it is because opening and closing of the bator during pipping.
ok incubating experts!so I'm about to go into lockdown....the humidity in my house is at least 80%...way over that outside! (who knew MN was a tropical state!?) would you still add water to the incubator???![]()
These leghorn eggs are enormous, i put them in lockdown yesterday. I am used to seeing the chick almost entirely fill the egg except for the air space by day 18. I guess that may be a side effect of always hatching marans and not being able to see inside very well but still.
Anyhow everything about these leghorns is huge, the air cell is huge the shell is huge and there still seems an awful lot of albumen in the egg and not enough chick, even though they have been incubated the proper amount of time.. kinda weird i can't imagine how those little chicks will absorb all the liquid before they hatch!!!!! They are very active, moving all around so i know they are healthy...
wondering if someone with lots of leghorn experience could expand on this observation?...

in the philippines where my bators run 47-55% all hatch I do not add water at all. I rely on humidity from the pipping chicks but i do not open the bator for 24 hrs minumumWhat is the humidity in the incubator??
If I think the air cell is too small I use AC to get it on target.
THen I don't up the RH until external pips.
SOme of mine hatch in the hatcher with no increase in humidity.![]()
