I don't want to come off all instructional- but eggs have an air cell it is located on the large end of the egg. IF you put an egg pointed end up the air bubble could tear through the yolk to get to the top of the egg (the point) because the air always wants to be in the highest point of the egg. then you could end up with a traveling air cell or an egg that won't hatch. you should store eggs large end up even if you just want to eat them so you don't get broken yolks as well.

You can also end up with lots of chicks coming out feet first because the chick needs to pip where the air sac is or they could suffocate. The small end would not have enough air in it to keep the chick alive long enough to zip out of the shell. The chick would have to turn in the shell to try to get to the air at the small end....just gets them all messed up.
 
Hi my name is Mandy and though I just got my very first incubator yesterday and am hatching my own back yard chickens I am already addicted. I jumped up this morning to check temp a d humidity before even looking at the empty coffee pot. I have ..9 eggs set fat end up. Candeled last night saw yoke floating I can't wait my kids are as diligent as I am about checking temps (they don't know but I am sooo eggcited I keep checking for chicks) yes I know way too early but I am addicted. Is there any hope for me
