is the roo moulting?

hmm this could be it,  I have noted that he lost a tail feather yesterday when i was watching him, and
recently he got two white feathers in his tail and i was shocked but then soon after they were gone..
so maybe he is moulting.

now i did not know that roos are infertile when they moult.. or is it just that they are not inclined to
do their job at that time?

I have an un-tested backup roo that i can switch him with, but i hate that because it upsets the hens
when they get a new boyfriend..

fertility goes way down when mine are molting. it is that time of year......

i never knew this!! well i am a beginner now i know. Poor guy (Mr. Twizzler) was unceremoniously relegated to a giant dog crate for
now to shed his feathers in peace, meanwhile the young upstart backup roo (Mr. Sawtooth) gets to show his stuff and moved up the the big girls house... I hope they are nice to him LOL!!!

it's all go around here... tomorrow the Wheatens who are on strike anyway, are being moved to their own new pen, and King Arthur will be joining them.. i'm hoping a pen of their own and a new boyfriend might help them lay some eggs. I also decorated their coop with christmas lights to see if a little mood lighting would help

Well, our first lot of manually incubating eggs went in 4 days ago.
3 dozen australorp eggs. The quality is questionable as they were about 10 days old already when bought and hadn't been stored pointy end down all that time, but they were cheap and I just want to make sure this thing runs and I can hatch with it, before spending more money on fertile eggs of known quality. The lady said they had had good hatch rates so far, so here's hoping to viable eggs in there.

I really can't complain and I'm not going to, because a start is a start....

Hope they hatch for you!!! I love the range of different shades you have there.. so pretty..

I have a Lyon Turn-X that holds 18 chicken eggs. That is a very conservative amount. Sort of like a Jenny Craig girdle for my hatching mania. But it's a good bator, giving me better hatches.
