Incubators Anonymous

Some pics of the specific incubator may help. it's very important to set things up & get a stable temp for 8-12 hours (or longer) before putting eggs into it. Most people have a second thermometer to verify what the incubator says.

HI,
I am an incubator virgin, i was encouraged to buy an incubator for my foster child. we brought it on ebay no instructions. do the knobs on top need to set to same temp. have worked out water channel, it is fan forced eggs need to be turned manuelly. Please help
Hi, sue-anne

What kind of incubator did you buy? And does it have an automatic turner in it and a thermometer? Was it new or used? Also, what kind of eggs are you wanting to hatch, and where are you getting them from?

If you can answer those questions, the people here will be able to help you get started.

Awesome! That's the age that I'm aiming it towards! Thank you for being a teacher! Not everyone is cut out for it... it takes a special kind of person and patience level!

I have choice of either doing my incubation or going to NYC to visit my brother, I've never been. I've chosen the eggs. LOL

The day we would leave is the day they are due to hatch. I don't want to miss them hatching. I can just go later on after they grow a biyt and can get someone to take care of the animals.
LOL...I would do the same thing! This summer we went in vacation and I couldn't find someone to watch our Bantam Cochin(she is a house-chicken pet

) so we took her with us! Set up a "vacation coop 'home" for her where we stayed and all was good! Crazy things we do for our pets....LOL!

That's wild! Hope you got some travelling chicken pics. I thought I was the only one who misses chickens while on vacation. We have a neighbor who was working in one of the classrooms where I hatched eggs. She's completely in love with my hens - especially the 2 which I kept from her classroom. She's our must-call chicken sitter and sends me daily chicken pics via her phone. Best part: the only payment she'll accept is EGGS & garden vegetables.

LOL I want to go but I have so much stuff going on right now, two dogs with medical needs. I'd be too worried about my animals the entire time. We go by train so no animals allowed or I'd take our epileptic dog with us. I could so see use taking our chickens with us LOL

DH told me 2 years ago "We aren't getting chickens" See how well that worked for him?

I slowly sucked him in with those documentaries on netflix about commercial chicken keeping vs backyard chicken keeping.

He claimed I would never be able to kill a chicken. So I bought an adult rooster for $5, killed it, cleaned it, put it in brine, smoked, baked it and fed it to him!

I'm spoiled I'll get what I want eventually! We have an enormous blackberry problem and I think 5 goats would be good... for starters. I want Scottish highland cattle too but that has to wait for our 28 year old quarter horse to expire and hes an tough old man. He'll probably live to 40!

My DH spoils me too (after I give up trying to convince him to do something and start trying to convince myself that it was a horrible idea in the first place).
We have a lot of blackberries too, but we don't call them a "problem". We call them two desserts and a week's worth of fresh fruit a year. lol
I still want goats. DH and I are going to look at the way back (well, that's what I call the property behind the backyard) and I've been thinking goats. I think he's on board with that, now that I've been having doubts. <rolling eyes>
LOL I've met horses like that! Maybe you could sell him or get the goats early???

The coyotes and cougars would love it if I got fainting goats!

I'll have to remember not to get fainting goats! We have coyotes too.
What else preys on goats?
