Incubators Anonymous

It is set to go no higher than 38. I could not even tell you, but it is cold enough in that room that you notice it when you go in and out of the room.

Now my husband is thinking that the thermostat may be the problem. I am to the point I may just go and buy a new one and setting both up in the front of the house will help.

Get a Genesis 1588 by GQF. It will still need to be in a stable temperature room though--The room should be in the 60 to 75 degree ranges and not go up or down more than 10 degrees in a day.

If it gets too cold, you can use a space heater with a thermostat. I keep my incubators in a large closet with a little heater.

Oh that is an idea. Now to see if I have a space heater that I can snag from elsewhere in the house. When we have the brooder back there we have to use two or three lights to keep the chicks warm. We did have a space heater in there last winter due to how much is sucked the heat out of the rest of the house.

If you are going to use a little heater---it takes alot less electric to heat a small room/space-----if you do not have another room, then make a small space in this room by using insulation board taped together or heavy quilts hung etc. But I really think there is something wrong with the incubator---could be wrong.

The previous hatches in the Kitchen and the bedroom went fine. We moved it to that room and had the issues. My 6 yr old told me that one of the older boys was playing with it. Usually the older boys playing with it means I have to replace it or they just fiddled with the settings. My husband is going to look at it when he gets home. He did suggest getting another incubator jic. In other words he will come home tomorrow with a new incubator so he can tinker with the current one.

Purchased 5 eggs from Appleton's (Chooks). Couriered them from Nelson to Cambridge (New Zealand, South Island to North Island).

Settled them in the incubator on 19/09/2015 @ 11:45AM (+12 UTC Time), On day 6 and currently all 5 are fertile!, Hopefully all 5 will hatch *Fingers crossed

They are 2 Light Sussexs and 3 Rhode Island Reds.

Using a Janoel 10 mini incubator set to 37.5C (99.5F) and have another temperature / humidity meter sitting inside reading in Fahrenheit.

Temperature usually fluctuates between 37.2C to 37.7 (98.9F - 99.8F), but has dropped under 37C (98.6F) at times when cold.

Keeping humidity at around 35 - 45% (No water inside)

Hi I am currently on day 16 of my incubation. I've had my temp fluctuate from 36.8 to 37.9 and all 6 my eggs are still good, I saw 3 of them kick when I candled last night cant wait for the first pip.

I'm also getting excited about my upcoming hatch. Technically, it's not really MY hatch. The whole thing was my broody's idea, & I'm just letting it happen. The hatch date should be Monday, but she tends to hatch them out a day early. I candled 3-4 days ago & all 7 eggs looked good.

Hi,I have a genesis 1588 and I am trying to adjust temp. I have shipped eggs coming soon. The instructions say to take temp at the top of the eggs in the center of the bator! I am using a spot check therm. and a mercury therm. They are taking close temp when I put them in the bator but when I leave them in for a long time. The mercury showes there is a spike in temp at some point because it showes 102 degrees! If I take temps around the sides its up to 102! I need a cabnet bator!!!! Help!!!!

Do you have the new style Genesis 1588 with the digital display at the top? If so, it should be fairly close to the correct temperature.

Set it for 99.9 and leave it for a day to see what it says at egg level. I would ignore the mercury thermometer and go by the Brinsea Spot Check.
