Incubators Anonymous

ok... here's a (possibly) odd request. would everyone who sells hatching eggs PM me with a list of what they have and what they charge?

i'm offering incubation services to support my 'habit' and have a bunch of people asking for assortments. so far i've got an assortment from Beth (BHep) cooking along and a very happy momma-to-be. but i want to compile a list of what other people have so when someone wants "a few of this and couple of that" i will know who i can PM for availability.

or, to support other people's hatching addictions, you could also post your llst here? Thank you for your enabling.

A general list. Please contact me for availability.

Heritage Speckled Sussex
French Black copper Marans
Free ranging flock of good-great egg layers.
Blue AMeracana Rooster on Easter Egger hens.

Muscovey duck
Bourbon red Turkey

well, so far so good... apparently good rooster-mates of broodies accept babies too. 8) tho he's being more 'momma' than the mommas at the moment. they're still in 'sit on the nest' mode. i lost 2 of my self blues from being sat on too tight i think, so i removed the milk crate (both girls were crammed in) and made the nest right on the floor so there's more room now.

i did relocate the water and scattered some food on the floor. the oldest chicks were looking weak until i gave them a drink and they started eating (with "poppa's" encouragement)

A...DOR..A ...BLE!!!!!!!!

O.O where did he go
you mean Calico? the poppa birdy? i just launched his butt out of the coop. he's back to being a free ranger for a few days, until he goes back to the bachelor pad. they seem to know pretty well when they can't get back to where they've been, the horse trailer is home. which is where he was supposed to go, and did. 8)

he's a favorite. he's not going anywhere, just away from being able to hurt chicklets. can't wait to see one of those babies grow up and kick his butt in the dominance game. LOL

Feelings about damprid in the bator?

We tried to move the bator today BUT it would not fit through the door of the new room I wanted to use.

Hubby is going to try to buy me a dehumidifier. That one we have works, but puts off WAY too much heat. There is something not right about it. My other one is not that hot.

My dehumidifier has not bee running so much with the front that came thru with drier air. But it is colder air and combined with the lack of dehumidifier heat the LF has dropped from 100-99 to 97.

Summer incubating is the most challenging.

Sorry you can't get it into the new room. Dang it must be HUGE. Maybe the AC would be better ??

when i got home and went to close the coops, i found one of my older mille babies (newly free ranging) on the ramp in the pond, entirely sogged and several slugs climging on her wings. ICK! so she's in the brooder now with the other babies (3x the size of most of them). she got a bath and a blow-dry, and is happily 'purring' to herself. don't know what else to call it. just a light trill almost inaudible if you're more than a few feet away. LOL she gets to go back outside in the morning. she's a favorite of the mille fleur cochin babies.

I know that made your heart skip a beat! Hope she is OK.

Humidity is dropping FINALLY! it was in the high 30% all day.... Yesterday it was like 44% so crackers and rice and AC are working (well the AC really does not work... a least not to cool LOL)

So I set 90 more eggs.... just to test it

Testing fertility (I am doubtful on some) and hatching what I NEED, the cuckoos and marans and wheatens and black AMs and EE and Projects x 2.... If I get 50% hatch I am going to be THRILLED! I have eggs coming so I have to test the bator.

I've read loads that indicates fertility drops during the summer months, but I haven't seen a decrease in the roosters courting efforts. ANyone have any info on this?

Donna-- hope you get that RH down.

Karen--that must have given you a jolt to see that baby all wet. Hope all is well. How do you like these birds as foragers? Seems like they go far.
