Incubators Anonymous

I didn't put a special fan in it. It's an LG so, I just bought and LG fan and installed it. It was made for the LG incubator. I had 4 get sealed in & had to help them out. They are doing wonderful now. Thankfully, I was paying attention.
you can still put that fan in upside down. it should be blowing up, not down. if it's blowing down, take it off and flip it over..

Thanks for helping me find the BST place on here. I'm going to have to put my chicks on here. Don't want to, but need to. How much do ya'll usually charge for chicks when it is a local pick-up? I have chicks right now from 1 day-5weeks old. I have no clue where to begin with all of this. My son wants people to come make an offer. I don't really like that idea. I like to know in advance what and who I'm dealing with.

Look at craigs list for your local market prices. Prices can depend on age of bird and breed.

Some people will only hatch if customers have already paid a deposit. You might find customers who want you to hatch chicks for them and you charge a per egg fee.
If you leave it to making an offer you will never make any money. Have a price in mind and a little wiggle room if the customer buys more. Like buy 5 chicks and get a 6th free.

My prices depend on breed, reg breeds are $3 each as day olds. Then my next price is $5 at about 2 weeks, once I can sex them the price goes up again. $7 for young pullets and $10 for 2-3 months old.

Now Marans are high, I should probably charge more, but $6 as day olds. $10 once I can sex them and at 2-3 months $15. (my lavender splits would follow that same price pattern, but they don't seem to sell)

When I slim down what I have, I can start by hatching for others. I have chicks right now from 1 day to 5 weeks. I have mostly bantams but I do have some brown layers.

ok cross fingers. i brought my black cochin broody in a while ago and put her in the top brooder with her wooden egg. peeked in a bit ago, she'd relocated herself (and the egg) to another corner of the brooder.

and wouldn't you know, IT'S A MIRACLE! that wooden egg just miraculously hatched into twin mille fleur d'uccles!

she's talking to them both in a soft voice, so i think it worked.

I just don't have time or pens for broodies.... especially the ones sitting on NOTHING! and have had nothing for weeks, nobody in that pen is laying now. Moving them helps, I tossed a new roo in my Cuckoo pen, I think she may be giving up. I moved one that was sitting on 12, then 10 then 8 then 5 I don't know how long she had been sitting, but she gave up and didn't sit anymore so she is in the EE pen right now. That fixed her.

well, another notch on the belt. LOL 1 more possum just joined his (decomp) raccoon buddies over the guardrail... gotta love the dogs for alerting me.

That is awesome! We are laughing here so hard...... think that sounds great.... nice one Karen.

and another broody update, my awol dorking girl (who wasn't really missing but thought she had been sneaky by hiding a few feet from the tractor shed) has her brood hatched out too. hubby said he saw her taking them for a walk when he got home.

so now comes the hard part. relocating her and her brood to a pen. i did the free range broody thing once. that was a royal pita when it came time to catch the chicks.
