MIL has a wood duck brood in a tree over her driveway; the duckling jump and drop 15-20 feet from what I'm told. I'm just glad I don't have to witness the event--my hear would be in my throat as each drops. Guess little birds are made to handle bouncing around.
Quote: A+ for effort!!
My incubator is full. Added bourbon red TUrkeys and FBCM and SS. A single duck egg is in the hatcher. Looks like the air cell is at the wrong end. Wait and see on that one. Maybe others have quit hatching for the summer or their incubators are full, too.
Karen, your place is just hopping with chickens. Glad the momma and chicks cooperated and got into the crate and put in a safe housing situation.well, an update on the broody mommas...
the 'duelling broodies' are still being great mommas, and 'da baby daddy' keeps circling the pen talking to his girls constantly.
the dorking momma (formerly awol) is now in a pen. the babies didn't move very quickly, so i slowly herded her/them to a channel between the pens, where i had put a dog crate. they all went in calmly and from there went straight into the pen. momma actually looked relieved that she wasn't totally on her own i think.
and the black cochin girl with the 2 d'uccles is still in 'sit on the egg' mode, but in the brooder inside, so i've been able to make sure the chicks have had a chance to drink and eat. one is a lot smaller and not quite 'right', but the other is going good, so cross fingers.
no more eggs due until the 30th, and they are not mine but for a customer. from BHep's flocks and going good so far.
candled the guineas and pheasants, i have 9 of each cooking. they're 10 days along now.
that second batch 65 hatched and I hav since hatched another 73 out. The brown one is turning out to be kinda ugly. I really will ltry to get a pic today. How was your hatch of the second batch of store eggs any more brown babies?? How is brown baby anyways pictuers please please please pleasee

Sorry about the chick--good luck!anybody know how to fix a slipped tendon in a chick? I need great specific details.
Thank you. Not really sure what to do. I'm not so smart when it come to these kind of things. It's hobbling on the joint. The joint has started bleeding and is swollen. I tried to put a little brace on it but it just keeps doing flips. This is the part that I hate.Sorry about the chick--good luck!
