While we're talking about 1588's and GQF. I bought a 1588 Genesis HB last year, it worked great and I've had the best hatch rates in it. However, I tried to fire it up several wks ago and it would spike all over the place! What on earth? It's never done that. I looked up in the fan and it looks very dirty, so I try to blow all that fuzz/dirt out? Thanks for any advice. I'd like to start hatching some of my eggs in a couple of weeks, bug can't until I get a couple of my 'bators going. Thanks everyone.

canned air for electronics should get most of it off the fan

well Day 5 checked a couple eggs last night; mostly seeing yolk shadows; yeah I know it's too soon, but I'm new to candling so trying to get a good look at each stage. Sniffed the cracked egg, so far not a stinker. Will wait and candle again this weekend and see what we can see.
with the hovabators, if you have a stinker developing, ypu'll know it when you open it to candle... at least i did.

that's kind of what I figured but figured it wouldn't hurt to stick my nose on it and take a good whiff to catch it early, either! So if an egg is going to stinky in the beginning, how early does it usually show up?

Yeah I had that happen recently too - it was at about 7 days, I opened the bator to candle and the whole thing smelled rank...I checked them all and it was obvious which one it was, smelled different from the others up close and looked dark like you would expect a full term egg to look, even though it was only day 7. That was unpleasant!

That's what I said before my first hatch too. Now I am on the IA thread

Has anyone used the Mini Advanced by Brinsea? I only want something small?
Notice the question mark after "I only want something samll???????????????

When we built my first bator I thought one tray would be plenty.... then we added a second tray. Well now I have 3 trays, more than 6x's as a big as my first bator. Holds 540 eggs.... BUT I AM DONE, I will NOT BUILD A BIGGER ONE!!!!

Personally I would not spend that much on a bator that only holds 7 eggs. Even if you do not plan on hatching much, esp if you are starting out with shipped eggs that does not give yourself a very good chance to have something hatch. Unless you are like *really* tight for counter space, I would get a HB Genesis for just a little more and forgo the mini. Or get one of the larger Brinseas.
